I walk over to the bus stop where there are two benches next to each other, and as I sit down I see a HB7 who sits down on the adjacent bench. I take out my nook and start getting absorbed in reading, having (regretably) no intention to game. Somewhere in the back of mind I'm noticing that she's playing with her hair quite a lot, when suddenly...
Her: "do you have the time?"
I move to take my phone out of my pocket, consciously being as deliberate and unrushed as possible, respond, "3:58", and then, very much oblivious, go back to reading.
Then, about 30 seconds later it hits me: everybody has the time, and I had just been blatantly opened.
Me: "do you know when the bus is due?" Her: "4:05"
I let it die again for about a minute. Then, I look directly at her until she returns eye contact, and say, "Would you hold it against me if I said you were very beautiful?" She looks surprised and says, "what? I didn't hear you", and I repeat myself word for word, a little more slowly. Giggling, she says something like, "people like compliments, so no I wouldn't", and as an afterthought, she smiles and adds, "thank you".
An earlier bus arrives, and I eject immediately. What the hell? Anyway, despite fumbling an easy play, I'm actually pretty proud of myself since I'm basically just starting out (22, have had 2 girlfriends, and both did all the work). At this point, I'm looking for some baby steps I can implement to take the interaction just a little further next time. Any ideas? Thanks.
