If she says a negative you break rapport.

If she says a positive you reward her.

If the convo is boring you break rapport and lead it to something interesting.

If you find it funny to do so, you break rapport.

She won't chase after you breaking rapport too much if she doesn't like you to begin with.

She will like you more if you have her invest in the conversation.

Most people give a compliment and let it hang awkwardly. The push-pull allows you to give her a compliment and then redirect the conversation away from the awkward pause. So if she said "What brings you here alone, should I be wary of you?" a push-pull response would look like "Woah. Woah. I like you but I'm not yet obsessed. You still have some work to do there"

It has the pull of "I like you" in there, which will sit with her later as she remembers the conversation. And the gentle disqualification of 'you have to work to get me obsessed"
