Self Amusement vs Tactics. Methods, etc. Which one yielded more positive results for you/students?

I think this is a very personal thing dictated by the way your brain works, and just the sort of person you are.

For me, being too technical (mysterymethd or Todd V) tends to do more harm than good.

Talking to some hot girl I've just opened and quickly trying to remember a good neg or 'disqalificaiton' line and I throw it at her, and she's like 'Yeah, I don't care. Bye' and it's like you ruined the set by following the rules lol. I personally think they are wrong about doing that stuff BEFORE you have clear attraction. I agree with Vin Di Carlo who basically said 'comfort comes first'. Negging or disqualifiying a girl who probably doesn't even think you're hot isn't gonna help you at ALL lol

For me, I think that RSD Tyler was bang on the money! I actually used to get annoyed at him and WANTED him to teach more 'technical game' at the time. He was like 'what you say doesn't matter' and it really annoyed me. I wanted him to teach me what to say and techniques, otherwise what is there to actually LEARN, right??? Surely if what you say doesn't matter, we all already have perfect game, no Tyler??

But now I see that game is basically all about state (once you have some of the very very basic things down which only really need to be learn by people who litertally haven't been socialised at all). And that was his whole thing. Self amuse, take all the pressure off, talk to girls and flirt, try to get completely OUT of your head (not trying to remember to evaluate and recall your best pushpull lines) and the results will tend to come

It's easy to show premise after self amusing. If it's clear that she's into you (you've been self amusing and chatting and stuff and she's giving you IOI's) you can literally do anything to make it man to woman. Drop a statement of intent. Just pull her towards you. Tell her to come outside with you for 5 min and slow it all down etc. YOu shouldn't be in your head trying to work out where you are in the flow chart and what line/technique you need to use next. You'll lose about 80% of your charisma (which is what game is)

The technical guys like Todd and Mystery really aren't for me. I think their style does more harm than it helps for lots of people, including me. It's looks good in the books but in a real interaction, trying to force any kind of techniauw REAKS of incongruence which girls hate.

I worked on eye contact and listening skills. I also gave myself permission to be funny and to have fun, without being the class clown or a dancing monkey. I practiced this affirmation for a while, among others:

I always have fun, and I share the fun with others.

The reason why being a good listener helps is it allows you to relax your mind and really hear what is being said. Instead of rushing in to interrupt what people are saying, you wait until you have something amusing to add. Something that amuses you. You make your joke, laugh because it's actually funny and voila you're self amused.

As an introvert it is already way too easy for me to get stuck in my own head, so I go with self-amusement. Which results in a lot of duds because, like you say, it stops at a certain point.

My successes have been where I combine self-amusement with methods, but in such a way that the methods become part of my self-amusement. I still get stuck in my head about methods, like "how should I get her closer to me so I can escalate," but the more I do them and the more I enjoy the interaction and her positive responses, the more those methods become internalized as part of just having fun.

Simple tip. Try to touch her politely. If she lets you touching her escalate. If not she is not so attracted. Then let her go! Remember: First she has to be attracted to you. Then qualify her and go to comfort pfase. You insteed always begin from comfort so you act like a nice guy. Think : attraction comes first. Look for IOI's from her. Then qualify her. You have to INTERNLIZE the method doing it many times. If there is one thing to work on, it is this : comfort without attraction means nice guy.

This is an interesting question.

I'm not sure if I agree with the premise that when you're self-amusing you can't also calibrate/escalate/or flirt.

Personally, I would say calibration is my method. I'm not following a rigid structure, but based on what the girl is feeling, I calibrate. (I.E. If a girl is giving me signs she's interested, I escalate or if she's being icey I might exaggerate the situation to make it funny).

I'd say I'm self-amused most of the time when I'm meeting girls but I'm also calibrating. I think pure self-amusement with no calibration is just trolling, it's fun for you but it's not relatable or win-win.

Think of it like public speaking: is it better to read off a script or to improvise?

If are reliant on a script, you can't respond to unexpected situations that come up (like someone in the audience asking a question you weren't prepared for).

But if you improvise you won't be as concise as possible and your message won't be as clear as something scripted would have been.

The solution is to have bullet-points memorized. You know the overall structure and the main points you need to hit so that you don't go off course. But you leave room for your organic personality to shine.

I'd say the same is true in game. There are certain key 'waypoitns' that you want to have something prepared for, but overall you trust your own instincts and let yourself be natural.

For example, it's good to have a strategy for pulling (you know how to seed the pull and you have a plan for things you and the girl can do together), it could also be useful to have ways to tease girls memorized (like saying, "Ooh, that's a red flag" whenever a girl says a detail about herself."

Having some techniques like that prepared will help you make sure that you have an idea of what to do if a girl is receptive to make sure you don't lose an opportunity and what to do if a girl is being unreceptive to get her to either reject you or show interest.

However, if you have too much material memorized, it's easy to become robotic and at that point I think you're missing the point of what pickup is really about: building an emotional connection.

So, instead of either using tactics or self-amusement, I'd say it's some of both.
