I honestly would ignore this. If you respond to her with a compliment she will know that whenever she's fishing or feeling down she can go to you for a quick and easy pick-me up. It's not your job to compliment her whenever she says something as simple as this. I personally find it better to just ignore this and divert the conversation somewhere else. That way she doesn't pick up on the habit. Not saying that it's bad to compliment a girl once in a while, but to me i don't even acknowledge that she said it cuz I don't want her picking up the habit of constantly saying this.

This is not a shit test. Shit test's are designed to test your response to her creating stress for you. This is her fishing for a compliment, you should say you think she looks great.

Now, I probably wouldnt say any of those things but they are fun to come up with. I would just say "yeah...." and trail off, shoot her a smile, and go on to give her comment the attention it deserves - none.

Or, better yet, I'd probably tell her she looks nice/compliment something about her outfit first. If she still responds with "I look awful" pretend to consider her claim for a second and then say, "hmm, yeah, on second thought youre right"

then continue on like you would normally.
