Some guys are always trying to please the women they're interested in, and they really shouldn't. Let me illustrate with an example.

I was hanging out with some friends and one of my buddies was texting with his crush who he'd been on one date with. At one point he sends her a picture of us hanging out. This picture inadvertently included a packet of cigarettes on the table. He immediately panicked because he thought she'd disapprove of him smoking and he says "shit, what should I say? Should I just say it's not mine? Or maybe that I'm about to quit?"

I said "dude, no. Just be honest if she asks about it. You're a grown man. If she disapproves of you smoking, then so be it. If that's a total dealbreaker for her, then she's not right for you." Lo and behold, she didn't like the fact that he smoked, but he didn't try to lie and she appreciated his honesty. And it wasn't a complete dealbreaker. If he had lied about it and they became serious he would have either had to hide it from her or come clean and admit that he lied in the first place.

My point is that you should never do something just to please the person you're interested in just because you're afraid they would otherwise not like you anymore and you might lose them. If you lose them, then they weren't right for you.

So many guys try to please women just so they'd like them or not break up with them. Don't! Live your life the way you want to live it. By all means do nice things for your crush/girlfriend/wife... But do it because you genuinely want to do them. Not because you're afraid of their reaction if you don't.

This simple rule will not only help prevent you from getting into relationships with people who you're not compatible with, but it will also make people respect you more.
