An Inner Game technique.
Creating an alter-ego/ building an archetype.
The brain is a powerful thing, and so is intention. It is much easier to build a perfect seductionist in your head that is not you. Who do you want to be? Build that person, every detail, give him supernatural powers, he is infallible as you will strive to become. Write it down. Then absorb this person, intend to emulate him, and surely you will begin to. Develop what would blank do? inner monologue to get pumped. You take the pressure off yourself.
The imagination is way too powerful to not be utilized. I've noticed inner game changes by toying around with this technique.

Thanks, dude. Added.
Going for more Outer Game stuff, but I'll add it up.
Keep 'em coming.

Though there's no outer game without inner game.

I agree. But both are important, and for a lot of people, this board has gone very far in one direction. This is an effort* to address that concern.

Just don't BECOME your alter-ego 24/7. Separate the two. And be clear of the differences between the two. Stay sane with it. I've seen these crossover and destroy or really affect a person close to me and it's confusing to them and others around him.

Yeah good point, that's why it's good to set ground rules for it as well, restrictions etc, always stay essentially you, and the alter ego is always just a reference point, never to take over. Good point!

How to use this:
There is the sentiment that Seddit is moving away from experimenting, writing up FRs, and discussing techniques. Let's turn the focus back onto doing, onto action.

Maybe you're right.
I eventually would like to be really awesome at banter and one-liners. I've noticed that when hanging out with guys or girls, a ton of fun comes from just dropping one-liners all the time, and I usually feel left out that I can't participate.
I've made a big bank of random one-liners from wherever, so I figure if I practice those, my mind will get into the groove. And to be honest, I feel like calibrating one-liners is more about whether the timing is appropriate and whether the joke itself is tasteful.
With that in mind, this kind of project seems pretty useful to me.

Not sure about that. I remember sitting around listening to my friends banter and a lot of times, they were repeating the same one-liners, sometimes several times in a row. And these one-liners were...not witty by any stretch of the imagination. Still hilarious. What made them funny was the timing and delivery.
Sure, one-liners can be witty, but they don't have to be.
Also, I don't think anyone will run through a list of five-word phrases. If you use a phrase 30 times in-set, it'll probably just be ingrained into you and will pop up whenever.
When someone vomits a TV quote, do you think they were running through a mental check-list?

I dunno, bro. I've said to 30 girls, "Hey, uh, I saw you and thought you were dressed really cute and had to talk to you." It wasn't weird other than the fact that I was stopping a girl on the street. Hell, some girls even find it flattering.
I mean, pick up is sort of built on the idea of, "Ok, maybe this concept or line could work. Let's go test it out a ton of times and see what the results are."
And remember, the idea isn't to, like, know for sure it will work during those 30 tries. The idea is to practice and internalize concepts or techniques. I mean, why practice one kick 1000 times? Does it mean that all you're going to do in a fight is kick? No, you still have the punches you learned...but now that kick is internalized.
Likewise, practicing a one-liner 30 times may internalize it, but that doesn't mean you don't have dozens of years of social experience to draw on.
[–]Bawlin_Cawlin 1 point2 points3 points 13 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
The kick reference totally reminded me of a Bruce Lee quote:"I fear not the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks once, but I fear the man who has practiced one kick 10,000 times"
I understand what the point of using these lines are...the end goal isn't the girl as it is internalizing what kind of things work and what do not. Each line has a theme, joke, specificity, and if it works, there must be something to it, something inherently awesome that can be taken and used off the cuff in the future.
When you commit to becoming proficient in something, practice is the key. I never really received much attention when I was much younger...so I wanted to be funnier...so what did I do? Just experimented with different things over and over, until now I'm just funny, but there were many a time I wasn't and no one got it and I should have never spoke again.
That being said, just going up and saying Hi is good for guys who have reached a certain point, but at least a line gives the girl something to sink her teeth into right off the bat.

jeeeeeeeeeeeeeez...
attracting women is NOT a technical skill and women are NOT robots where you push buttons until sex comes out. analogy does not apply.
[–]puaAthens 0 points1 point2 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Dancers, musicians, and artists are not robots, yet there is a very important technical aspect to those disciplines.
Engineering is very technical, and even often deals with robots and computers, yet engineering is a highly human endeavor, drawing heavily on creativity and inspiration.
And to say that ackowledging pick up has a technical component is like saying women are robots is just as silly as saying artists are robots. That's very reductionalist thinking that doesn't ackowledge the complexities of seduction.
Haha, yeah I was going for that Bruce Lee reference.
I think you're right: The most important thing is to go up and practice. I've just realized that some guys I've met who are extremely good at this don't have that quick, one-line banter thing nailed.
That means the one-liners are not necessary, but in terms of hanging out with people in general, I feel they are an amazing social lubricant.
There have been countless times where I was too shy to relate to a person, but still thought the person was hilarious and fun and wished I could relate better. It seems shallow or simplistic, but when I think about it, I feel like the banter had a lot to do with those feelings.
Anyhow, it's worth giving a try.
[–]puaAthens 1 point2 points3 points 13 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Plus, how does one learn to be witty and spontaneous? By being witty and spontaneous? Doesn't seem very helpful.
Like in many other disciplines, perhaps emulation is a good first step.

You are very right. This is why Jim Carrey got his start doing impersonations, and most standup comics have a ready answer to who influenced them.
Personally, my banter changed significantly after I started dating a girl with wicked humor. You can't help but talk differently after South Park/Family Guy/Arrested Development/Strangers with Candy/The Colbert Report have been injected into your brain.

Anyway, I'll give this another day to see if other people like it. If not, I'll delete it.

Don't forget, Seddit is like any city with 114000 inhabitants: you can't please everyone, but chances are you can please someone, especially when you've got something that would benefit our common goals. This group technique journal is a terrific idea because it would help us forget about the ugly sin that is the sidebar.
Agreed.
[–]puaAthens 1 point2 points3 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I also think you overestimate how difficult it is to take a line and calibrate it to different individuals. Maybe it's just me, but there are certain stories, jokes, etc. that come up in conversations just because I am me and have my particular set of experiences. So, where does calibration come in? Delivery.
So to me, it makes more sense to say calibration is more about delivery rather than about content.
Of course, you don't go up to a grandmother and tell her a dead baby joke, so calibration does have a bit to do with content, but that's an extreme example.
You don't seem to be in actual disagreement with puaAthens. He obviously understands calibration to be a necessary skill, one which takes lots and lots of practice... He wouldn't be suggesting 10-30 sets if he planned for all of them to go the same way.
Your first line alone warned me that this would not be constructive criticism. Next time, try using a more diplomatic tone when you disagree. As in, try treating other Sedditors as actual human beings. You'll go farther in life.

This is gold. I love this. ♥
I hope the moderators consider using this crowd-sourced approach to upgrade the sidebar. Also good would be a weekly journal thread to discuss new additions.
In a way, this would be a condensed, curated version of Seddit. The same goal might also be achieved by universal post tags and veteran user badges.

You should check out my seddit pocket note app, I plan to update it soon but is pretty much same premise of what you want

Sweet, dude. By the look of it, yeah, it's pretty much what I'm going for.
