Yeah, I know, text game question. Everybody hates those. But it exists, it's basically content honing, amirite?

My question is this - I get girls responding to my messages on the dating sites/apps, as long as they're questions with yes/no answers, or "any big weekend plans?" or "says you're 6 miles away. What part of town are you in?" type logical/logistical questions. The responses seem to die off when I attempt to go more conversational with it - a silly statement, a statement that pulls from their profile, anything without a question. That is, unless I'm saying something cocky (eg: "surely you're cool? if not, it's fine, i'm cool enough for the both of us.") Recently watched a Todd Valentine video on creating value in the CONTENT of what you say - because this is really all you have to play with in the realm of text game. He says don't go the logical route - provide fun, palatable value with your messages - if you get responses, that's positive in general. So my question is - how do I provide value such that I invoke responses to statements that aren't questions? Is it with a bit of cockiness? What if there isn't much to pull from the profile? Any tips?
