There's a common myth that often floats around these parts. It goes something like this:

"The ultimate goal of men is to have sex with as many attractive women as possible. While all men want to achieve this goal, only a small minority succeed, who we can label as "alphas" or "players." These men are somehow different or better than other men, who we can label as "betas" or 'losers.'"

There's already a word for when a guy has lots of sex with lots of random women- "promiscuity." There's nothing wrong with that. But generally speaking, the men who end up having large amounts of casual sex are men who devote disproportionately large amounts of their time and energy to seeking out casual sex, often because they have poor impulse control, are avoiding commitment or rely on sex to regulate their mood. They are otherwise no different than the average guy.

However, there are important implications to the idea of the "alpha male." For one thing, it means that if a guy goes out and has sex with lots of random women, that proves that he is an "alpha" and therefore better than other men. Therefore, lots of men will try to do this so that they can feel better about themselves or be admired by other men. So that they can experience the feeling of power that comes with being an expert and giving other guys advice on how to be good with women.

I'm writing this post after one of my friends was telling me about how he goes out to bars to "be alpha" and "find the hottest girl in town and fuck her that night." He tells me that he has mastered the skill of being good with women and can convince any woman to have sex with him at any time. He is overflowing with profound insights such as "the thing about women is that they are overly emotional, so you can't use logic" and obviously wants to be admired for this. Don't be that guy. It's cringy as fuck.

And don't fall for that shit online, either. Lots of posters around here pretend to be experts who can teach you how to convince a woman to have sex with you if you subscribe to their YouTube channel or buy their e-book. The only thing these guys actually know is how to convince insecure men to give them money.
