There's not really enough context here to give a single answer.

First off, it depends on how well you know them or if you want to know them better. Second, on how long it's been since you last saw or interacted with them.

If you saw them earlier that day and are just passing by between classes or something, a simple smile and a friendly "hey" (without stopping) works fine. But generally if it's been more than a day or two since you've interacted and neither of you is in a rush, you should stop, make eye contact with a confident smile, and have at least a moment of catch-up conversation.

If you're not in a rush but you're not sure if they are, you should probably lead with "Hey there, are you in a rush somewhere" or similar.

Here's my system: Just smile, nod and say, "hey!" If you are 'approaching' them, then you extend that initial Audible Interchange with a fairly technical follow up. I named the process the Audible Interchange Double Speaker. A.I.D.S. for brevity. You essentially follow up the first Speak with "What's going on?". In the field, this has been robustly tested and fully enables a PUA to stack forward and multi-thread on your armoury of canned material.

For rando's: Make eye contact early so you both acknowledge the fact that you've noticed each other. Then say "Hey!" and leave your hand out for a high five! Don't have it too high, needs to be about waist/chest height so its not too much effort for them to do it.

Keep on walking, don't even break stride.

Also, you can move your hand at the last second so they miss it for lulz.

So i don't really know where you're from, and body language has some nuances all over the world, but in my perception a smile, a 'hi' and perhaps a wink (don't do this if you suck at winking) seems to be enough if you know her vaguely.
