...only boring interactions between them."
That's from Intimate Connections by David Burns. (Not a PUA book, but excellent) It's been a real revelation for me. It's like everybody has something interesting about them, and it's up to me to find out what that is. If it's the interaction that's boring, and not the other person, then half the responsibility lies with me to make things interesting. I kind of like that challenge. It gives me the power to enjoy almost any conversation. I find a useful tactic is to cover a lot of topics with people. Too often I focus on topics that will make me sound interesting and that I am comfortable with. But, that in itself is boring. My tactic is often if someone is boring me, simply change the subject. Maybe their political views suck or they are droning on about work... well, ask them about travel then, or animals or art. Move the conversation forward towards something more interesting.
Another thing, I'm not sure if it's the best tactic with women (maybe you guys can give me some feedback), but when someone is very quiet and won't say much, I just start bombarding them tons of questions... from serious to silly (like what do you think of balloons?). In a fun way, not like an interview. I don't force them to answer anything, if they hesitate for long, I don't get pushy; I just think of a new question. I usually make them laugh and we find something to talk about.
This reminds me of when I was about 12 years old, I was complaining about being bored and a family friend, who was probably getting sick of me, looked me straight in the eyes and said: "If you're bored, then you're boring." I was dumbfounded, but loved it. For years, anytime anyone complained about being bored, I would say that statement. Well, people didn't always like hearing that, and eventually I stopped saying it so often. But, now thinking about it again... it's the truest fucking thing in the world, and I think I will start saying it again, especially to women. Of course it can work as a good neg, but is extra cool because it can also easily lead into an interesting conversation about the truth of it.
