It's not a bad idea of making a distinct first impression. But you've got to be careful it doesn't isolate the person socially, considering you just turned down their greeting. So long as the girl is retaining a good outlook of you, I'd agree that it could offer advantages of her attention, trying to "earn" a hug from you.

I get where you're coming from, making the girl earn your affection, but the problem is this can sometimes come off as being rude. This would be fine once you've gotten to know each other and used for teasing purposes and kino as a good way to flirt but right now you're making a first impression. The best way I think to go about it is instead of going for the friend hug(wrapping around her shoulder with your hips parted like people in church) wrap your arms around her waist and pull her into you putting your hips on hers. Plus if she's into you she'll stay there while your hands are wrapped around her waist. This creates a barrier between you and the rest of the party, it also allows you to dance if you want and since your faces are close its an easy K-close. The handshake will back her off and put space between you two

Eh sort of disagree feel like it's always best to move into kino ASAP whenever i'm offered a hug I don't shy away I embrace firmly and for a good amount of time that way she's physically comfortable with me from the get go making it easier to escalate

Bro, when so many people "miss the point here", maybe it's just that your point isn't the best one, or they don't like it, or whatever. You're not always going to be right. Have an open mind. I'm just saying...

Anyways, I can see your angle. By not giving her a hug when she goes for one, she'll work for one. Why? Because people want what they can't have. Maybe smile when you go for the handshake to show you're not trying to be rude.

I don't see a problem with that. The problem is the whiteknights around her that will give you a problem for not treating their little lady like a princess; an idea that was cultivated by her anyways.

I say just refuse the hug and then act like it's no big deal and that she is no big deal. Maybe try to undermine her alpha-ness by ribbing her a little bit, showing you won't put up with her shit.
