The second is by being collected. The main characteristic of this humor is doing something risque and not being effected by the social tension it creates. An example of this would be holding a pause for longer than is anticipated by the situation. People will laugh as a result of this because they want to break the tension.

I would say that the first method is a stepping stone. When you don't know what you're doing it's natural to just do whatever gets a reaction. Also the social conditioning is very strong that you have to make a girl laugh a lot before she will become attracted.

The second method is a much more attractive way of making a girl laugh. A key aspect of this is that it shows you are in control of the situation. You aren't making her laugh because you want a reward for good behavior, you're making her laugh because she wants to please YOU.
