To call or to text?

I hate them both, but rarely call and almost always text, and here's why.

First, if I get a girl's number, I'll either send her a text right then and there so she has mine, or send her one much later in the evening saying it was awesomet to meet her or something to that effect. And that's it. I generally don't respond to anything she says after that. I'm not trying to initiate a conversation, just want to make sure she's got my number and knows who I am.

Beyond that, I have a busy, strange schedule that changes every week, so I can't always call during "normal people" hours. I can, however, take a quick 30 seconds out of my day to send a text. Besides that, I'm generally not trying to have a conversation. Not via text, and not over the phone. The whole reason I'm contacting a girl is because I want to see her, and that's it. So let's set it up and then stop texting. I've got other shit to do.

Beyond that, sending a text, these days, is quite acceptable, and beyond that, it's a lot less nerve wracking for both parties. Plus you can choose your words more carefully and make sure you don't say anything retarded before you send it.

But I do, in fact, hate texting. A quick back and forth is fine but many girls like to have whole conversations. I'm not alright with that. I'm notorious among my friends for calling them the minute I receive a text that I think will go back and forth more than twice. It's a waste of my time, IMHO.

In my experience, the success rate of texting is greater than the success rate of calling. Women are more apprehensive to answer a call from someone they just met rather than a text.

Also, Bitches love smiley faces.

Definitely texting. I can confidently talk to girls, but for some reason if I call and get a voicemail I'm at a slight loss for words and it gets exponentially more awkward the longer I leave the voicemail.

There seems to be a lack of consensus on this topic here from the times it's come up, but both sides have great points.

I realized I had been getting low response rates when I called, either with leaving a msg or not, so I stopped doing it. Now I only text girls, and I use text very sparingly, basically only to set up dates unless she is a real text small talker. Usually 1-5 texts between dates. It's helped my response rate a lot. Of the dozen or so girls I've asked out over text in the last month, I've only had 1 not respond, and learned later that she had a serious boyfriend.

The problem in my mind is that to some girls, leaving a VM is beta; to others, not leaving one is creepy. Nobody has a problem with text messages.

How much do you text girls? I would avoid getting into long conversations with them over text, it's very hard to build real attraction over text.

Women realize that calling is a bit more nerve racking then texting, so they will be more responsive to a cll (it shows more confidence)

If you plan to call her, you should have a message prepared so you know that you will sounds smooth incase it goes to voice mail.

On the other hand, if you plan to leave her a text - it should let her know that you remember her, but are not desperate. Something like:

Hey, It's XXXXX

I had a blast talking to you the other night about XXXXX. Friday night I'm going out with a couple of friends to a show and wanted to invite you. It's going to be a real laid back and fun group of people, so I think you'll have a lot of fun.
