Maybe she had some reason not to kiss you, maybe she just doesn't kiss guys she hooks up with. I had one girl like that - we had sex a number of times, but never kissed, because she had a rule about that, pretty much reserving kisses for her boyfriend.

Some girls are just like this. They come to the date with principles of not going to far on a date. Sounds like this girl is not that used to guys being as forward as you. She showed interest in that and in you by her ”touchyness”. Just go for another date and play it cool. Let her set the tempo. On the next date I would probably say something like ”If you’re gonna keep being so close to me like this we can skip the first kiss right off”. She will be a bit embarrased and then you go in for the kiss. And say that you just had to.

She is probably thinking about you and your date right now.

She probably doesn’t want to move too fast and is testing to see what kind of guy you are. Next time try not to be as aggressive. Just take it slow with her and let her put the moves on you. It already seems like she did but for sure wasn’t ready for what you thought with her signals. I don’t blame you though as girls can be confusing.

If I were you I'd not tiptoe around it. I think edging in and testing to see if she will kiss is a bad strategy. Maybe try very openly and directly taking her head with your hands, look directly in her eyes and jokingly say something like "we've been lying on the grass touching for a long time right now and I think it's about time you kissed me on my face!"

Something silly. Something playful. Note that you're saying SHE should kiss YOU. This subtly makes it seem like this is her who is advancing. Sometimes if you frame it in this way and she DOESN'T kiss you, it almost feels as though you're the one who didn't kiss her, not the other way round.

Anyway if she does kiss you, great. It was probably all just to test your ability to be direct and assertive. If she doesn't kiss you, make a joke about it. "That's a shame, I've been preparing for this moment, I've spent the last three hours kissing myself in the mirror to perfect my technique! I enjoyed it a little too much actually..." Something like this will diffuse it instantly, and the rejection will just feel like you were joking all along.

My only caveat to playing it this way is not to do this if it's not going to feel congruent. I use this kind of direct/playful tactic all the time, but if you're not a naturally playful person then find something more in line with your personality, but my main advice is to be direct. Sometimes girls will not kiss until directness is demonstrated by the guy.
