I'm puzzling over this one guys.

Two separate women, on the same day, said they wanted to hang out / chat more, and then reversed it the next day.

Situation #1 Met her at a coffee shop, got her number after a brief exchange in which she asked a few screening questions. It was a little weird that she asked things like what do I do for work and am I single, but ok. Got the number. Called her the next day, no answer. Followed up with a text saying to call me back. No call back. Saw her in there today, no eye contact or acknowledgement. I'm not sure why she gave me her number if she didn't want to talk further?

Situation #2 Different girl, have kind of seen her around and have been running into her everywhere lately. So I finally said hey I'd like to spend some time and get to know you a little better. She said yes she was interested and to swing by the place she works tomorrow. So I did, at which point she said that she prefers to keep things professional, she's really busy, etc.

TL;DR - What is happening when women indicate they would like to continue the conversation and then reverse the decision before they even talk to you again? Or can I be doing something differently?

edit: If it helps, I did kind of call out girl #2 and I said hey I hope that wasn't weird, but you totally said to come by today and that you wanted to hang out. She replied with oh yeah that's just something I say, we're totally cool, thanks, etc.
