That actually doesn't sound that bad. They let you join and didn't ditch you after the show. They could have all pretended they had to do something random together at the same time, then left. It's impossible to talk during a live show, so all you want to do is stand there and look like you're enjoying the music anyway. If people aren't laughing at your jokes, then stop, and turn back to having fun and making sure they're comfortable with you.

Fwiw, I think these forums way over-emphasize impressing people, rather than letting people be comfortable with you. It sounds like they were comfortable, so you were actually doing ok.

I'd say the only thing you did wrong was being shy and awkward. But whats more important you took the first step to not being shy and awkward. The more you just go up and open random groups of people the better you get.

I have a rule, everyday in my neighborhood I open 2 or 3 people I've never met before. Man or Woman it doesn't matter. Just get comfortable talking to people, being around people, interacting with strangers and being friendly.

This is also awesome if you do it around where you live because if you bring a girl back to your place it's an amazing demonstration of value when everyone around your neighborhood knows you and waves at you. You look like the boss of the community, and women respond to men who seem like they run shit.

Don't over think it when opening a set, especially a mixed set. Just go in and start with a smile and say something silly, talk about what someone is wearing, rib them a little, get their friends in on it. You make 3 people laugh, you just made 3 friends. A big part of being funny is smiling and being confident that you are funny, so if you are going to make a joke, believe it, smile. If they don't laugh then make fun of yourself for thinking its funny.

You're on your way man, just keep doing what you are doing.

Realize that this was only the case in your head, until you let the awkward thoughts stew in your brain, after which, they would have become evident in your behavior and body language. This shit only becomes real because you make it real.

It was bad....i pretty much just played pool and made lame jokes that no one laughed at.

Dude, you don't need to be the entertainer. There's no need to try to make jokes. You are enough.

What was your goal? Did you want to pick up girls? You should have approached their group and then tried to isolate with one particular girl. I'm honestly not too good at approaching groups, I'd always rather just approach girls that are going solo.

That doesn't really sound bad. What it all comes down to, is you came off as a normal guy. This is good and bad. Essentially, unless you REALLY fuck up, the worst thing is you come off as average. C is the worst grade you'll get.

I still have this problem. I don't want to come off as average or normal. It's fucking boring and predictable.
