Just say "I'm just trying so hard not to kiss you right now".

That way you create sexual tension, and create a man to woman vibe, instead of feeding her ego with useless compliments.

It means nothing more or less than what a sixth grader would understand it to mean. Typically, this question pops up during a break in the conversation or while making prolonged eye contact.

As an aside, this “intentional” eye-contact business has gotten out of hand. Eye contact should be as spontaneous as the gesture’s of one’s hands or the rhythm of speech.

There’s nothing magical about it, nor is it guaranteed to create the kind of tension you hope leads to the bedroom. In fact, there is the “Goldilocks Zone”—not to much or too little, and research has shown that it takes just a few seconds for a gaze to go from inviting to uncomfortable. More importantly, one woman’s preferred duration of sensual eye contact can be another woman’s point when it becomes unwelcome and intrusive.

I’ve experienced this. One girlfriend appeared to love long unbroken eye contact, almost a who-will-blink-first contest; another after two or three seconds squealed “stop” playfully.

You never know.

Her willingess to fill the silence is a good thing. In general context she’s genuinelly curious what you’re thinking about.

In specific context it depends on how you’re looking at her and how she says it. When you’re looking at her that way, what are you thinking about actually? That’ll probably let you know how it is you’re looking at her.

If you’re silent and chill you could come across as stoic. If you’re silent and thinking about you two together then you may come across as flirty. If you’re staring at her blankly and not sure what to say then you may come across as shy.

I’d say use it as an opportunity to move the date along depending on how it’s going. “I was thinking of showing you this other spot, but I’m not sure”. “I was thinking of doing this” (and then kiss her). “Just that you’re . . . interesting.”
