You probably shouldn't use pickup lines. And, if you do, they should be so bad they're good, and used cheekily. I'm not sure if this one crosses that line, or if you've got the cockiness to pull it off.

This also looks try-hard, specifically because you've gone to the trouble to ask about her and find out what she's studying. This is a mistake. The more effort you put forth in preparation for talking to her, the more beta you look and the more you elevate her and devalue yourself.

In fact, now that I think about it, I'm pretty much certain this pickup line is destined to end badly, unless she already thinks you're cute. If you don't have any indication she's into you, I would wager your line is asking to fail.

Regardless of how you open, the next step is normal conversation. So, start a normal conversation. Forget everything you know about her, and discover her yourself from the things she says, not the things you've gleaned from her facebook, mutual friends, or whatever. Again, if you give off a fanboy vibe, where it seems like you've studied her, you will turn her off like a light switch.

I like "the line" but the thing is i'd never open with something like that. The problem with "lines" is you have nowhere to go after they are said. This is why typically people are told to use opinion openers. Instead of only breaking the ice, they also incite a conversation, that's the difference.

Instead, what I'd do is keep it as a good playing card, and hold to it until the right time. Let's say that she's talking about what she does, you then go "Oh, you must know a lot about materials then, what kind ... [insert line here]"

It'll look spontaneous instead of thought out in advance. After the line, you can continue on the conversation that was already going on.

I'm going to go against the grain and say pickup lines work as long as she gets a laugh out of it and you've got the frame to pull it off.

Actually if you've got the frame you can pretty much say anything as long as its not disrespectful or overtly sexually creepy.

I also saw this golden nugget in that worst pickup line post on askreddit. You can take it further and ask her what her shirt is made of. She'll probably say girl friend material? And you can say how am I supposed to know? I just asked because it seems soft (kino her shoulder). Then transition to a cold read or something. Just have light conversation and tease her here and there. The rest is all the same.

Pickup lines are designed to open a conversation with an impression to build your own DHV.

Using known pickup lines are just same as using the jokes that everyone already heard. It's not impressive anymore.

You can take old joke and re-word it to where people usually won't be familiar with until at the end where they may suddenly remember the original joke.

Using old pickup lines work the same way.

Just remember, girls hear pickups all the time so don't go with classic concepts of pickups where they know that you're complimenting them right off the bat.

Opening up with a question about women stuff, "Hey I wonder about that purse..." works better than pickup lines in my experience. They love talking about those type of stuff.

Remember all those times the men would come up talking about cars? Those are openers they use with men to bond up.

as a dumb joke you can throw something like this in but if you say it earnestly it's pretty much admitting that you have no humour of your own....
