I recently joined a grad school. So there's a shit load of chicks around me. I installed tinder and started swiping.

Honestly, the first mistake was probably bothering with the banality of Tinder to begin with. You have a TON of ways at your disposal to interact with real people in a more immediate way than swiping through pics on an impersonal app.

At BEST, Tinder is something you might fiddle with in the background, but it shouldn't be the main way you're trying to meet girls, or it'll be frustrating.

Hash runs. Trail running + beer + fit people = win
Couchsurfing meets. Hang with travelers and people who like to be around travelers.
Social partner dancing. Salsa, Lindy Hop, West Coast Swing, Argentine Tango, etc. You really can't go wrong. Learn something fun and have an excuse to be close to a girl in a fun and non-threatening way. (Just respect it as an activity & means of self-improvement first, and place to meet women second.)
Download the Meet-up app. Scan for groups near you that you share an interest with.
Do a Facebook search for your city/town/area. Look under the Groups and Events tabs. Or you might search your city + some activity you're specifically interested in.

The first day I got around 7 matches.....Right now 4 of them have unmatched and the others not replying....It's hard for me to understand why they liked me if they aren't interested in talking.

This is why Tinder and other apps like it suck ass.

It's not really socializing, but you get to feel the rejection as if it were.

Occasionally things will work out. Sometimes you'll even have a good run of it and it'll feel like it "works." Sometimes girls will hold it together long enough to exchange those few messages (3-6 or so between the two of you) actually necessary to establish that you're both not psycho and cool to meet up.

But in the end, it's very boom bust because the guys in the area will inevitably swarm any given girl in desperation and flood her inbox with a ton of dick pics and other desperate messages that send girls running.

The real advice is to put Tinder on the back burner and find ways in real life to meet people.
