This is what I like to do. And I rarely get a number without a number exchange. Before getting a number I always let her know that I am interested in meeting up with her another time and I make it clear that I'm not there wanting to be her friend. If she doesn't want that, I don't bother getting the number.

Texting

Pros

It's easier and you don't have to think on your feet
You can be a pussy and still text like you're not
It's easier to manipulate her (oh sorry I just got this, my phone died etc.)

Cons

You're not dealing with her 1v1, she's showing your texts to her girlfriends and wondering what to text back
You're giving her room to manipulate you
She can text dirty flirtatious stuff but in person she'll close up

Calling

Pros

You're dealing with her 1v1
It's way more intimate
You can sense in her voice how nervous she is
It gets shit done
You'll be a rare breed that calls, and it's a turn on because it shows confidence

Cons

You have to be confident over the phone
You have to think on your feet
You have to know what you want before picking up the phone and dialing

As far as the fear about what do I do if she doesn't pick up goes, don't worry about it. Leave a short message for her to call you back. If she responds with a text, no matter what she writes, respond with 'Call me'

If you don't get a response from her after the first voicemail and you're still interested, call her 1 more time a few days later. If it goes to a voicemail again, keep it short and concise - Hey it's me again, I figured I'd give this one last shot, I want to see you. Call me back. If a woman is refusing to speak to you on the phone, don't waste your time on her, go find another one.

I usually text right after the conversation is over, only to let her know who it is, and to set up a date. Calling can work this way too. Leave a message. Call soon. Anyone who tells you that you have to wait a day or more before contact is dumb.

Always text. She might not pickup a call because she is busy, did not hear it or does not want to talk right now. That's fair enough but what if she misses the next to? Calling a third time looks needy and desperate.

Texting is non-invasive and waves the ball in their court.

If you call, what happens if she doesn't respond? Do you leave a message? How long do you wait before you call?

If you text, how long do you wait before sending the text? What do you say in a first text?

First off, I always do a number exchange whenever possible. So I call her number on the spot and help her create a New Contact for me.

Secondly, I text her as soon as the exchange is over and mention something about how it was nice meeting her and I reference something unique/special about the conversation, if possible.

Thirdly, I try to plant the seeds for hanging out in the initial meeting, if possible. Even if I don't, I follow up on a first text, within a couple days, regardless of whether or not they responded to it. I ask them to hang out to do whatever..... and leave it up to them at that point. If there's no answer at that point, I leave it.
