Don't tell people what you want from them. Let them show who they really are and if they fit your standards without saying anything and then vet accordingly.

This really resonates with me. I mean, why have some of us been so conditioned to explain our ourselves all the time.

I didn’t used to be like this, not until I had a relationship with a NVM. I now overexplain EVERYTHING to people who aren’t supportive of me. It’s draining, it makes me feel worse.

I vow I won’t try so hard to get anyone’s approval again but the cycle inevitably repeats.
