What are your thoughts on Masculinity?

many people seem to be disconnected from the concept of masculinity. Ie, they don't have any.

And this is exactly what we need, let every individual man define his masculinity how he see fit.

think the best way forward for men is to not sink to the level of dependency that women have been trapped into. Do it yourself

No, men need and deserve help from the system. men pay 60% of the taxes. men deserve an Office on Men's Health, male victims of domestic violence deserve shelters, homeless men deserve help etc etc ... I'm just a human not superman.

own your shortcomings, and don't blame all your problems on the world or the "system". It's not constructive.

So you are basically telling us to shut up and man up ?! that's garbage. you know what's not constructive ? telling men to shut up. you know what's constructive ? creating support system for men. we deserve it.

The things we're talking about here have more to do with the system than with 'doing it ourselves'. That is not because we're whiny, but because it is in the nature of things we have more to say about it, this is a political group, and it is better recognisable. But you're perfectly welcome to post something about 'doing it yourself' - so we can also see what you mean. It is better to light a candle than to curse the darkness.

This is essentially a right-wing, conservative view. And looking at the downvotes, not one which is particularly welcome here.

You basically come in and tell (a lot of) us "you're not man enough"... And getting shamed is something we've had our belly full of.

And I'm all for fixing things yourself if that's feasible, but there are many issues we discuss here at aren't fixable at the individual level, because they are more systemic. We can fix them if we raise awareness and get society to change.

You are right that we shouldn't blame all our problems on outside forces. There are steps we can take as individuals to improve our fate, and we could probably bring those up for discussion more often. But then let's do that in a positive, constructive way, instead of questioning people's masculinity.

Well, what did you expect? The old definitions don't work that well anymore in modern society, and there isn't a new one yet that would be universally accepted yet (if that's even possible).

Maybe this quote from Warren Farrel will help you:

Now, about this:

Do it yourself, own your shortcomings, and don't blame all your problems on the world or the "system". It's not constructive.

We are not encouraging anyone to eschew individual responsibility, although shifting of focus away from it might appear as if we do. Instead, we want more men to acknowledge how some problems facing us are systemic. Being a good boy and working hard, and taking on a lot of responsibility may help you individually, and that's all good and proper, but it won't help men as a gender.

In my opinion, in the brief time I have been here reading posts and getting a feel for the sub-reddit, there are a lot less angry men here. Sure there seems to be passion, but I see less woman-hating fanaticism in this sub.

This leads to well reasoned people who are self critical, instead of the bluster and "I am right" of other groups. That is why I left other groups, because I understand that my dislike of Feminism is the organised, vocal minority. Not women in general.

I also think it's hard to gauge masculinity through text on a screen, afterall the internets very nature promotes in some a bluster, that doesn't exist in real life.

Now i may very well be wrong but i hope i am not. I hope i have finally found a group that doesn't hate or look down on women because they have power in areas of scoiety, that is greater than men's. We just become the mirror of the 'man-hating' feminists at that point. That doesn't make our voices heard.
