For those who don't know, National Intimate Partner and Sexual Violence Survey 2016/2017o, or NISVS is a survey that collect data on sexual violence in the United States. These surveys are done by the CDC. I have used these surveys in some of my post in the past, so it's interesting to see new reports.

Please note that I'm just a redditor, so read with a huge grain of salt

Note that "Rape" does not include made to penetrate

Made to Penetrate for women was not asked in the 2016/2017 report due to low numbers of answers. For men, 1 in 9 are forced to penetrate at some point in their lives, and 1.3% reported that they were made to penetrate in 12 months prior to the survey in question. 62% were "made to penetrate" by an acquaintance, 23% by an intimate partner, 14% by a brief encounter, 10% by stranger and 5.9% by a person of authority or a family member. In the 12 months prior to taking the survey, 83.8% had female perpetrator.

Notes

  • I left out lots of things because if I included them, the post would be too long.
  • 15,152 women and 12,419 men completed this survey.
  • Changes have been made to the survey, so comparison with other years is not recommended.
  • Many men and women might have felt too uncomfortable enough to answer the survey correctly.
  • The questions on sexual violence were moved from section 3 to section 2, which might have resulted in the interviewer having significantly less time to build rapport with the interviewee.
