Those must be all the toys the non-existent wife let you keep. ;)
[–]robob270020 points21 points22 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
she let me keep the beer too
[–]4thDimensional[S] 19 points20 points21 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I had to ask the dogs for permission but they're usually pushovers.
[–][deleted] 37 points38 points39 points 8 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
Awesome! I can't even name a tool apart from the hammer but i want to have this someday, lol.
[–]MoronicBobbin22 points23 points24 points 8 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
Every man should have a toolbox, ignore those minimalist nu-male wankers. Buy a decent one then ask people for spare tools they don't need and start from there. Look out for quality second hand stuff.
[–]toerrisbadsyntax5 points6 points7 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Yup! And /u/ticklishdick/ there's lots of tools you can probably be given and refurbished n put back in service. Like hammers or crowbars, get a wire wheel with a grindstone... Learn cleaning tools and bolts... As you become familiar with tools and parts, your handiness will increase! Ask around for spare materials too. Wood, metal, glass, leather... Whatever you like to work with.
[–]XxRandomguyxX5 points6 points7 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
How do you get started with this stuff? I know what a hammer is and that's about it lol
[–]4thDimensional[S] 6 points7 points8 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
OP here. I got started with a metric socket set and a jack / jackstand set. Tons of youtube videos out there for car repair, which beat the shit out of the old Haynes manuals. Get yourself a 3/8 torque wrench with a range between ~30 and ~150 ft-lbs and you've got yourself an awesome starter set.
Most importantly, diagnose before you replace. There's plenty of resources and good people online waiting to help you!
[–]relevantretriever5 points6 points7 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Youtube is the fastest way to get started, but trial and error is how you’ll learn to put the tools to use. I️ started by going to yard sales and buying second hand tools. You can get the basics for pennies on the dollar.

Envious!
[–]rubifen-rx 10 points11 points12 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I know! Good for him :)
[–]AR96 10 points11 points12 points 8 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link
What motorcycle is that on the right? The one in the middle
[–]4thDimensional[S] 12 points13 points14 points 8 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link
SV650 naked. Great starter bike.
[–]chester444 5 points6 points7 points 8 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
Agreed. I bought an SV650S as my first bike almost 15 years ago, then sold it a few years later when I started grad school. I didn't ride at all for several years, then I got the itch again after my divorce was finalized just a couple years ago, and bought myself a used SV650, great bike for just cruising around town on a nice day.
PS..... I dig the MR2, as well, not very many of those left around anymore, are there?
[–]4thDimensional[S] 4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Love that MR2. There's a decent amount I still need to freshen up on it, but its been great regardless.
[–]toerrisbadsyntax4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Your mk2 mr2 is sweet! I can't afford a proper rear engined supercar... A fiero or mr2 is right up my alley! Kudos to you good sir!
[–]Udo701 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
There's a few here in NZ. My brother has one.
[–]eRoNNN0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Not the mach 2's no.
[–]AR96 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Holy shit! Just googled it and its a beauty! I was debating on getting a car after getting my bachelor's or a motorcycle in a year. Thanks, man!
[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Starter! Sv650s was my ender...1 ton van turned left in front of me. That bike was physically addicting.
[–][deleted] 9 points10 points11 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
That's a sick mr2, NA or turbo? Grats man. The Ferrari kit is nice if done right.
Nice bikes btw.
[–]4thDimensional[S] 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
NA. Bought it so I could have Camry reliability in a fun DD :)
[–]dem_paws0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
How does it hold up? I've always had a thing for 90s Japanese cars like the MR2, the GTO/3000GT etc but I've heard they are bad quality and really don't work a a primary car.
[–]4thDimensional[S] 3 points4 points5 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I've had some issues with the front end suspension/steering but that's mostly mileage and age of the rubber. The drivetrain is slow but mostly the same 5sfe found in the early 90s Camry. It's been nothing but the epitome of Toyota reliability for me.
[–][deleted] 10 points11 points12 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
When are you people going to learn to use the nsfw tags??? There could be BETAS lurking this sub. Think of the poor bastards.
[–]WhistlingAlong 8 points9 points10 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Been playing video games all day. It's cold outside and me and my crew are having a good time on our mp sessions.
[–]4thDimensional[S] 7 points8 points9 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Hell yeah it's been cold out everywhere. I'm inside on guitar for the rest of the night.
[–]strangerthing75 points6 points7 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
To the mencave batman! :)
[–]NondeductibleWays5 points6 points7 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
A garage for you. A "man cave" for someone else, unless "my wife won't let me".
[–]s0ma_ 4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
nice setup. very nice. you gotta quit smoking, man. stay frosty brother
[–]1UPZ_3 points4 points5 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Nice.
Engine transplant? I had a Gen 3 3SGTE implanted into a 1992 SW20 body when I was younger and got the turbo boosted. Good way to spend weekend mornings (and night) with my dad and a friend.
[–]4thDimensional[S] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Nah still got that reliable, slow as dirt 5SFE :)
[–][deleted] 5 points6 points7 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Good work, man. Put a drop ceiling in my garage cave today. I don't need a lift, but I will add a lathe next. Probably be a good mix if we were neighbors....
[–]Curthurley4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Heck yeah that a bendpak lift?
[–]DrRedPaint 3 points4 points5 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
so much extra space too
[–]calibanister4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I always say I could live in a shop or garage. Looks good.
[–]Thebalance214 points5 points6 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
More than happy to join you my dude.
[–]yes_no_username 3 points4 points5 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

[–]bingobongo9914 points5 points6 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Legit garage man.
[–]Averageeurodude4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Dream garage! Kudos man..
[–]laiod4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Looks like a great setup. I could definitely use a car stand like what you have. Would make every job I do much easier.
Surprisingly cheap if you have the requirred depth of concrete. Dude came in and installed it for $2100 all in, then we put a 4x8 sheet of plywood on it and used it at a party that night as a beer pong table.
[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I'd have a set up like that too if I didn't have $2,000 a month in day care costs.
All you lurkers, Never COHABITATE, Never impregnate, and keep it covered no matter WHAT she says.
[–]TheNatureBoy2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
This is what this sub is about. Great fucking post!
[–]Takakazu_Kinashi2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
What are you doing with the car
[–]4thDimensional[S] 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Front brakes. These sw21s had issues with sticky front calipers.
[–]chtrchtr_pussyeater2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I had a 91 na, most fun I had with a car as a kid. Nice shop setup!
Such a fun car! Slow as dogshit in a straight line but like a murderous gokart in the corners. Mines a 91 as well.
[–]c4engineer2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I'm jealous of all your tools
[–]Lighthouse_772 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Nice. I’m building a recording studio and spent all yesterday and last night playing with my new toys.
Live the dream brother :)
[–]Revorob1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
That is an awesome workshed! You even have your own hoist. I am so jealous right now.
Good on you, Bro!!!!!
[+][deleted] 8 years ago [recovered] (1 child) | Copy Link
Toyota MR2?
I heard if you want one of those in Canada to have to order em in.
[–]Jhonka930 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
They’re already here, just hard to find . Most people don’t want to get rid of theirs since cars like these are worth keeping.
[–]horsefromhell1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Amazing. How high are your ceilings?
Quonset hut has some weird angles but the peak is 11.5 ft. The MR2 can get 6 ft of underhead clearance but anything higher will top out on the corner.
[–]LuvMeTendieLuvMeTrue1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
That is one nice garage
[–]DoctorShroom1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Sweet mr2
[–]E46M541 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I'm jealous bro.
I have a 2-car garage but the ceilings are only 8 feet so I may buy the MaxJax lift system so I can at least get the car up a few feet until I build my real shop.
[–]nunhgrader1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Cool ass garage!
[–]polini461 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
nice MR2 dude :) have fun with all the lovely machines
how much did that lift cost to buy and install? Looks exactly like the ones in my service departent
$2100 installed
[–]Herpnderp145 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Jealous.
[–]UndeadTed1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Dude I'm jealous to have so much room for garage projects
[–]JosefDerArbeiter1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Love your hydraulic lift. That makes any car maintenance seems luxurious compared to using a set of jacks and crawling your ass on pavement lol
