OK, let me break it down. Naturally maybe 20 percent of women can approach the physically perfect look that an average girl can achieve with the help of makeup. Since all girls want to bang Chad they all use makeup to improve their chances with Chad, and therefore when you walk around in everyday life you see the makeup augmented average girls, and now assume that level of physical perfection is the baseline for an average girl. So when you see her with all the crap peeled off her face, you are still modeling her versus the baseline of a girl with makeup on, and you are like 'yuk.'
It used to be a common joke guys tossed around about waking up the morning after getting hitched and finding out what their wife looks like without makeup on. Technology is now saving men from that.

Don't forget that on the biological side men have higher testosterone, this stuff keeps our skin tighter and lets us look younger for longer, especially since men do not have a tight fertile period like women. For example a 30 year man who keeps fit will look much better than a 30 year old women who keeps fit, simply due to the fact that his T levels allow him to have a tighter and sleeker body. This is most prominent in the face as women have a tendency to have what I call muppet mouth( think of hillary clinton mouth) whereas guys usually just have a long but tight fold( think of how bill clinton looks).

Besides corrosive chemical damage, it's a result of biological selection over time.
If makeup is constantly boosting women's looks by 2 or 3 points (factoring in that it also damages their baseline looks), then they are going to be naturally uglier without them. For example if an average '5' woman is actually a 2 without makeup, then the true average of women is actually a 2. That means even an 8 doesn't really look better than average '5' without makeup, and 9's and 10's don't even really exist. Meanwhile a '5' guy just looks like a '5' guy, and a '9' guy looks like a '9' guy. Shockingly, they tend to date up as well so we literally have '9' guys dating average girls, and average guys dating '1' girls because of makeup, hypergamy and gynocentrism.
Womens' looks are completely inflated by makeup, and it further shortens their time to the wall. Which is why you should beware of the deceptive and crazy aspects of any woman that wears makeup, which is to say nearly all of them.
When was the last time you saw a celebrity woman without makeup? You're used to it.
Also, makeup exaggerates the visual indicators of youth, health and sexual interest/arousal.
These cues apply to men more than they do for women.
Something that exaggerates a person's physical dominance would have the opposite effect.

It seems to be pretty close 80% of the time, all it does is decrease saturation, and does it more around the lips and eyes, it also appears to increase contrast to expose wrinkles more, you can tell it desaturates the face a bit too much making some people ghostly white and some artifacts are apparent which can make the face look worse. It is very good at removing lipstick and eyeliner though which hide bags under eyes and make the lips not look thin and dry. Best way to look at how accurate it is find someone famous or not with and without makeup and use this app on them and see how it matches the no makeup pic.
Edit looking on makeapp the higher res pictures seem best, the two front page posts, one of Ana kasparian and a short haired red haired girl seem to be exceptionally accurate.

You do know that makeup actually DOES that right? I mean it blocks sunlight from hitting the skin (sort of like a coat of paint) and so tends to make the underlying skin a sort of "pale --> pasty white."

Look at /r/makeapp, when they are wearing particularly shiny lipstick it takes the color away but it still leaves their lips looking unnaturally shiny.
All depends on the foundation they are wearing, some go for a lighter look, some for a darker look and then you have all that shadow and highlight and blush, a woman's makeup case looks like an entire palette of paints.

I grew up in the 70's, in a part of the country where makeup was lipgloss, and all the rest was for special occasions. When I used to date, I would gravitate towards the women who didn't wear a lot. There are women who don't need a lot, they're naturally pretty.
Now? The makeup the average woman wears 20 years ago would be considered "hooker" makeup. You wouldn't see it outside of strip clubs.
