Make a reservation for the room at the place of the wedding and tell future MIL that's how it's going to be.

There's no way I'd be advising a 23 yr old man to get married. I've told all of my boys to wait until at least 30 and know the woman for more than 4 yrs prior to getting engaged - explained to them that people can act for a short period of time, the real person eventually comes out.

That's one fucked up tradition btw.

Sounds like a bedding ceremony. I'm curious what culture GF's family is from. Could be western European, but more likely Indian or east Asian.

To add on to this, this is not as bad as it seems imo. In fact, this is probably something that would make a wife "less likely" to cheat.

The logic being that the more the wife's family/community is involved in the marriage the more shame and guilt a woman would feel from cheating. Back in the old days, women cheated less because they had a greater sense of duty to family.
