Some comments from that thread from other ladies:

1) I’m kind of an odd bird as far as career, personality, aesthetics and hobbies go. I don’t mean that a derogatory or self depreciating way. I’m cool and pretty but in a confusing, niche way. Truthfully, the men I’m attracted to aren’t attracted to or interested me for one reason or another. I’m not unhappy alone so I just keep on truckin’. I don’t want children and I’m indifferent to marriage so there’s no real pressure to get it sorted on any particular schedule.

2) I haven’t dated in over 10 years. I went through some pretty dark times with self esteem and self worth…

BUT therapy works! I’m on the other side, happy, healthy and finally thinking I’m ready to give dating another shot. I genuinely think I haven’t been waiting for the ideal person for me to date, I think I was waiting for belief in myself that I was ideal enough…

I kept telling myself that my perpetual single status will be a big red flag, and the fact that At 37 the longest relationship I’ve ever had was 7 months when I was like 26 is a big red flag.

BUT I’ve decided that once it’s safe in my city I’ll get out there and if my dating history is a red flag for a particular man, he’s not the one for me! nervous yet nonchalant shrug

And you’re right, if someone takes this as a red flag, then he’s not the one.

3) I don’t seek “The One” anymore but I’m still pretty picky. I hold out for those I admire in some way, those I laugh with, those who allow me autonomy and enjoy their own autonomy, those I feel sexual chemistry towards and those with obvious mutual sexual compatibility.

4) I'm like you. Almost 5yrs on my own. It's incredibly lonely but I can't settle. I know I have abandonment issues I'm working on, and I don't have space in my head for another person's baggage. Well. Not worth it anyways. If I meet someone worth it, i'll make time.

In the mean time. It's all about me myself and I. I like my life where it's at. When I too lonely I find myself going back OLD . Makes me like being single very fast lol

5) I'm holding out for a soul connection. There has been one person in my life that I felt mutual, unconditional love with. And I refuse to settle for anything less. I'm going on 10 years of being single and I'd rather stay single than be in a relationship with anything less than a soul mate.

6) I think I fall into this category. I get asked out a lot, as a relatively attractive girl in my late 30s. I have my shit together, own a five bedroom house, and have a great career in healthcare. I also have a super hedonistic side - Love eating an edible and sitting in the hot tub and listening to music on an evening off, maybe having a glass of wine, watching a movie, masturbating, and falling asleep all cozy.. At this point, I just feel like men are competing with that level of content. Occasionally I will go on a few dates, but it starts to feel like a chore. I think I’m just really waiting for someone who’s gonna knock my socks off. Mediocre dudes are like eh. I could be at home aggressively chillin.

7) I froze my eggs. It took the pressure off dating and I chose to be single for a few years after that. Back into the dating realm now because I felt ready.

Response from commenter: Around 15k and insurance didn’t cover any of it. Had to save for it for sure. If it is at all feasible I do recommend it.

8) Love this question. I began my single journey motivated by hurt and bitterness from an awful relationship that didn't last long, but long enough to destroy my confidence. I was actually thinking today about how looking back I'm shocked at how much self hate I was carrying around all the time.

I held out in hopes I could learn to be better. Not in any specific quantifiable way, but the last few years have been a revolving journey of observing myself, being honest about how I treat myself, and changing one little thing at a time, for the better (in my opinion.)

Now... I've had a few tries at it recently but I'm holding out for a post pandemic world where dating online is not the ONLY viable option, and going places is less daunting. Plus more time alone is welcome. I like myself. I like where I'm going. I like the freedom of my life now.

But I really do miss intimacy, physical intimacy more than anything. So the itch is there.

Oi vey, where do I begin with this? At the risk of sounding like a blue pilled simp, I've felt this way twice: once with and 18 year old (first long relationship) and once with a 23 year old. I was about five or six years older than both. We had a wonderful time. ROMANCE IS FOR YOUTH. The best you are going to get after a certain age is companionship. These "feelings" she is chasing have already happened, with the dudes who checked "almost all" (but probably not money) of her boxes. It's done. It's finished. You aren't going to feel that way again.

It's hard for people to accept that this stuff is fleeting. Men are a little bit more realistic about it and tend to do a Jay Gatsby about one 20 year old they knew ten years ago. Women still think they are going to feel like this over and over and over and over and....

Imagine if you wanted to recapture the feeling of the first time you looked into your child's eyes? Well guess what, it already happened. Do you then proceed to have 12 kids to look into each child's eye over and over and over and over....
