Saying privilege is an unearned advantage because you're born into a dominant group is like saying your children didn't earn their food, clothing and shelter because they were born into your dominant house.

Humans have been grouping together since the beginning of time. Just because one group advanced itself faster than others doesn't mean it should be penalized for it.

Two words: Struggle Session.

Struggle session

A struggle session was a form of public humiliation and torture used by the Communist Party of China in the Mao Zedong era, particularly during the Cultural Revolution, to shape public opinion and to humiliate, persecute, or execute political rivals and class enemies.

In general, the victim of a struggle session was forced to admit to various crimes before a crowd of people who would verbally and physically abuse the victim until he or she confessed. Struggle sessions were often held at the workplace of the accused, but were sometimes conducted in sports stadiums where large crowds would gather if the target was famous enough.

Good stuff! I wasn't aware of the kafkatrap.

"privilege" is the concept that there exists a grave social ill that one is inherently guilty of participating in by default given the circumstances of one's birth. The only way to atone for this is to accept and help spread the ideology that identifies one as guilty.

I liked it better when the Vatican invented it and called it "original sin"

I don't get the Christian thing. Seems like a dumb tactic to make people discard their faith. Want to be less privileged and be able to hold more against people? Drop Christianity.

I don't know about other Christians but I certainly feel oppressed as a Christian, not privileged.

Wut

There’s a church every 10 feet and your cult members won’t stop knocking on my fucking door or passing weirdo child marriage laws

What exactly is your definition of oppressed?

[–]NathanRav 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

A church is a building, you don't need to go in there... Also, I don't know anyone who door knocks or haven't had my door knocked ever. I've also never heard of anyone wanting child marriage? If anyone does they are dumb and their Christianity is fake? It's pretty clear that Jesus was against harming anyone even regardless of their wrongdoings.

The whole point of Christianity is that it doesn't oppress and has no desire to hate or discriminate.

Crusades were really for territory and the whole Leviticus debate against gay folk is irrelevant as most of those early books in the bible are mainly there for historical reference. The same principle can be applied towards why Christians now eat pork...

My definition of oppression is when someone trolls, discriminate or harms a person due to an aspect of their identity.

As a Christian (at least in Australia), you grow up under attack and isolated due to the more common ideology's prominence, atheism, which oppresses and suppresses. Strangely for some reason, Christianity is their most hated religion. Just my personal experiences though.

Sounds like Christianity is a little more humble over there. Which is probably a good thing - Christianity has a bit of a history of going mad with power

In America, it’s a plague that supports absolutely everything the Bible says is wrong.

Watching kids go hungry and the poor freeze on the streets or die alone in prison gives them a hard on. AIDS epidemics and cutting funding to schools because Jesus told them in a dream it was okay.

They’ll vote for a child rapist as long as it suits their agenda. Jesus would be sick to his stomach that his words had been twisted to such an extent.

We should be free to believe whatever we want - but should all keep that shit to ourselves in my opinion.

Sounds like you have a problem of bigotry and intolerance.

There are two billion Christians on the planet. You've lumped them all together in dubious generalisation, merely to create a target for your rabid hatred.

[–]martin59825 -1 points0 points1 point 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That might be the case. I don’t give religion a second thought most days - but I do have eyes.

I have no problem with the teachings of the Bible - I wish more people took them to heart. But it tends to turn into tax breaks and professional victims

Everyone has some sort of “privilege” the very fact they have access to a printer is a privilege that not everyone in the world shares. Why do we need to measure each other’s privilege though? It’s barbaric.

Also. there are many males who aren’t privileged because they’ve been born in a 3rd world country. That would mean a female in a first world experiences more privileges than a 3rd world male.

To think a woman also doesn’t have any privilege is fucking retarded. If I could get off with a lower sentence on the same crime because I’m a woman, I’ve just exercised some privilege.

They can fuck off.
