There are so many strong reasons to support a stance of "innocent until proven guilty", from the fact that it gives us a reasonable belief that the innocent will not be punished unfairly, all the way to the knowledge that the real criminal will never go free just because we punished the wrong person.

However, one new argument for this core pillar of our legal system that I heard recently is quite subtle, but I thnk it's actually unbelievably good. Basically, it goes like this: if an average person starts to believe that innocence is not a sufficient defense against being prosecuted for a crime, then what reason do they have to not commit crime? There is certainly strong motivation to commit crime: it can be very profitable in the short term; it can be emotionally satisfying; it can create a sense of fairness and justice when others are breaking the rules but not being punished for it, etc. If innocence is no longer a valid defense against being punished as a criminal, our very society is going to fall apart amazingly quickly, for what I think are fairly obvious reasons.

Accused identities need to be protected as well as accuser identities. Only upon conviction, should you be able to report on a person accused of a crime. It's tainting the potential jury pool. If not convicted, the record should be sealed, only a judge presiding over a case involving that person should have access to that information. A baseless accusation should not have the ability to fuck you over from getting a job or a house or a gun, or anything like that.
Two year statute of limitations, anything longer than that is bullshit, and hampers defense. The longer ago that accusation, the harder it is to defend yourself properly. You may have an airtight alibi of being somewhere not even close to where you are accused to have committed a crime, but so long ago, there may not be paper trail still available, or witnesses that might be able to remember you being there, etc etc.

It's a freakin' tragedy that we've accepted social terrorism as the norm. We need laws against this moral retribution bullshit driven by self-importance that makes innocent people lose their livelihoods, or worse.

There is a big problem with social media. Because there is a huge profit rage trains going through, because that generates a lot of clicks.

People who are more rational, more hesitating with a harsh judgement, and they something like you did, are capable to pull up such hate trains.

But the algorithm on Facebook perceive that your post may reduce the speed of those rage trains and the next time, one of those is on his way, you most likely won't get it -- or get i later -- in your timeline.

There's plenty of reasons why a person may not report at the time. That doesn't make it false.

That being said, based solely on this post, it doesn't sound like there's any reason to presume it true either other than sexist treatment based on gender.
