In the past haven't feminists used the fact that many men have been out of the country fighting because of a draft to take their cause forward? Think votes for women in the UK during WWI, and second wave (I think?) feminism in the US during the Vietnam war.

a) or b) or c), I don't believe feminists are homogeneous. Some would rally round the flag and send their sons to war, some would collaborate, and, hopefully many, would set aside gender politics and concentrate on the threat at hand.

That being said if a male only draft were instituted I think hell would break loose.

I think the following would happen:

1- They would blame the whole thing on men.

2- They would then grab as much political power as possible.

3- If the West won then they would just alienate men more from everything they were protecting.

4- After the war would be shows mainly about how women "won" the war, heroic women in the forces and how men are savage.

5- They would never complain though how they never volounteered or had the draft apply to them

6- TV would showcase how bad PTST is affecting families and how ex-soldiers are unsafe husbands and fathers.

7- The headlines would never say men die - just soldiers, but if a women died in combat it would be headlined "Woman pilot dies!!!!"

8- There would be shows all about rape of women during the war, but no talk of men dying in the war.

9- Divorce would skyrocket for men serving and protecting their families.

Kinda like today...

Based on their current conduct during the so-called "war on terror" the feminists totally ignored it (the "enemy") and continued pushing for legislation that strips men of their rights, continued to demonize all men as rapists and as stupid brutes, portrayed fathers as irrelevant and unnecessary, ensure men are no longer "innocent until proven guilty" is accused of DV or rape or assault (or basically any crime that woman might acuse a man of) and so on.

So based on that they would a) make men rally around the flag and risk their lives to defend the country (and totally sidestep asking for equality of women soldiers to risk or front line posts and combat, etc), b) use the enemy to divert people's attention from their own agenda, and c) not disintegrate or disperse at all.

You have to realize that feminism is not linked to this sort of political and military issue. You may as well ask "what would happen to the greenies when the country is faced by an external aggressor"...where's the link?

And so, "why do you ask"?

I think they would c. But in reality, they would just redefine their position and take up support roles within the economy, in manufacturing munitions, nursing, medicine and logistics. They would suggest they working as the solution to all of women's problems.

If they didn't do that, they would be cast aside.

We have a real life situation in the tv show Survivor. Notice how the all female group disintegrates towards the end of the season while male groups or mixed groups tend to stay together.

i read an article some time ago on this that had specific examples and stats from the first 8 seasons, but I wasn't able to find a link to post.

Why wouldn't feminists be loyal to the state? The leading feminists are mostly state functionaries of one sort or another. They rely on the state to enact their beliefs. So they'd feel threatened both personally and politically by an aggressive enemy.

So it's not so much that feminists would rally around the flag, as that they'd rally around the preservation of the state.

I don't think feminists would necessarily disintegrate as a political group, but I doubt you'd get the same level of male bashing or the same efforts to feminise men. Not in a time of war.

Is the premise is that men would be the ones most harmed by the hypothetical? Or just that there would exist an important issue that all other social issues in the world (or just the feminist ones) must be ignored?

There is no obvious point behind the question, though you may actually have one, if you just referred to a problem with specific feminist issue(s)
