Mmmmm, my big issue with this is that they don't say at all what those 25 "criteria" were. Because the things that can be true of a false rape claim, like the so-called victim being promiscuous and trying to cover her ass, or having been hurt in a relationship and seeking revenge, or whatever, doesn't mean that people like that can't be raped. Just because someone is a slut doesn't mean they can't still be raped, and people are raped by their significant others.

Also, it doesn't give enough info about the FBI cases dismissing the primary suspects. The words "primary suspect" (rather than "accused") makes me think these could be cases where it was stranger-rape, and then the woman picked the wrong man out of a lineup or whatever, rather than accusing the wrong men.

But, yes. False rape accusations ruin men, is unfortunately common, and tarnishes the believability of actual rape victims. Real rapists get away with it, because their victims don't want to have to face the inquisition and character-tarnishing that trying to prosecute a rape generally entails; I know four women who have been raped, and none of them reported. False accustion hurts everyone, and I find it disgusting.

I wonder how /r/feminisms will refute this (because you know that they WILL NOT let this stand - rape statistics are the heart of feminist metanarrative identity.

Will they say that the study is biased?

Will they say that the women studied were all pressured into recanting, due to the world-wide conspiracy against women?

Or will they simply say that men deserve to be afraid of false rape, because women have been raped in the past, and now its 'our turn'?

The more i learn about the world, the more I realize that the feminist ideology i grew up with went WAY the hell overboard.

I have no doubt that lots of rape allegations are false - in fact one happened to a close friend of mine after he banged a partyslut in his frat one halloween. She had a boyfriend and so to save face said that he'd raped her. It very nearly ruined his life, and he got kicked out of his frat. Of course she didn't go to the police, and later recanted the whole thing but his reputation was ruined (And believe me, he had no trouble picking up chicks).

However - linking something like that and claiming it proves that a full 50% of rape allegations is false isn't very good science at all, even a basic statistics class will tell you that...furthermore, the Airforce reports relied on polygraph testing which has been so widely criticized by the scientific community as to be laughable as evidence in anything. You know what's funny? The USAF study is impossible to find. The journal "Forensic Science Digest" is impossible to find. For all intents and purposes, this study does not exist!

I would have to agree after checking google/yahoo/dogpile myself. I dont find them anywhere other than being referenced in that article that was written over 25 years ago. It seems fishy to say the least. Thanks a lot for pointing this out.
