What saddens me the most is not that people condone it, but that they (and it's mostly the mothers) trivialize, like genitally mutilating your son is normal if it prevents heat rash or looks more clean.

For all those people who say they've never heard a circumcised man complain that it was done...well I'm circumcised (and Jewish) and I hate that it was done. Parents of reddit please give your newborns the choice that I and so many other men never had.

It's good to see circumcision rates dropping but that parent (Greg) at the end ticked me off.

"It's painful. The baby doesn't get to choose," Greg said, "but when you can prevent disease down the road, I'm a firm believer in that."

The only major diseases science even claims it can prevent (or help decrease the risk of) is penile cancer and HIV. The research on HIV prevention is still very iffy in terms of how they did the study in Africa. And doing circumcision to prevent penile cancer is tragically laughable. Penile cancer accounts for 0.2% of all cancer (affecting roughly 1 out of 100,000 men) and 0.1% of all cancer deaths. To put that in perspective, male breast cancer is more common at roughly 0.7% in men.

At the end of the day circumcision of a minor should not be allowed. A consenting adult, why not their decision (that goes for females as well), but before then no one should be making/influencing that decision. It's not the parents' body so they shouldn't get a say.
