"I need Feminism because I beleive the gov't setting aside contracts for women-owned companies is beneficial to society, but having the gov't set aside contracts for men-owned companies is inherently sexist and oppressive."

I hoped /r/mensrights was going to be about raising awareness to create better fairness for men's rights that have been neglected and abused.

I wanted this to be a place where ideas were shared to increase consciousness about the need to advocate for men's rights in a changing world.

I thought this was a place where avenues of advocacy could be made available to men and men's allies to create a fairer and more equal stance in front of the law and society.

I personally believe that /r/mensrights is at risk to becoming another /r/atheism, an often hateful subreddit that circlejerks for the benefits of its own by resorting to simply hating on outsiders instead of educating others, dealing with the actual issues it claims to represent, and moving their agenda forward positively through awareness and outreach.

I get that /r/atheism is sort of a 'coming out' party for atheists and they have a lot of pent up anger that they may need to release. I understand that perhaps /r/mensrights is also a place to vent the frustration found in an oppressed minority, but wouldn't we be better off to lead by example, stick to the facts, and keep the shit slinging somewhere else?

This isn't to say I haven't seen many good posts here, for example one tackling the myth of unfair wages for women, or another regarding how father's are often prevented from equal access to their children. I mean to say that I'd prefer /r/mensrights to care about it's image, to present itself well, and state it's cases well and I feel posts like these only inspire hate and anger instead of ways and means.

Instead I found it too often to be a bunch of "hating on the other side" rather than getting down to the issues and educating others on why men need more advocacy to have more equitable stances in society where need-be and in the eyes of the law.

I'm going to post this to the main subreddit, but wanted to post it here first, as this is what, in part, inspired it.

It's (not) really surprising how many of these are just reiterations of "Not everything around me is completely perfect all the time, MISOGYNYYYYY". I know that sounds like a sarcastic generalization, but feminism (even the over-idealized "everything in the future will be perfect and equal as soon as we get rid of that darn patriarchy" feminism) is not going to fix that people are going to find some things attractive and other things unattractive. It's also not going to stop people who see marriage as important from seeing marriage as important or expressing their opinion on the subject, and even if telling someone who doesn't want to marry that "one day they'll change their mind" is rude it's certainly not a gender issue. What's doubly funny are people claiming they need feminism because of problems feminism has caused--one sibling even complains about how she needs feminism because indoctrinating a ten-year-old child to behave like a perpetual victim makes her "sick". And these are just from the first couple of pages. I hope for feminism's sake these aren't the best reasons people can come up with to justify its existence.

These statements are ridiculous and have nothing to do with feminism at all. Every feminist I know believes that fathers should have equal participation in the raising of children, no feminist claims they should be paid more than men for less work or easier work, there are simply statistics that show that women are paid less for the same amount of work, which my mother was a victim of as a high tier accountant. No feminist condones women committing crimes and not being punished for it, no feminist thinks that men should be victims of violence, although there really is an issue with domestic violence against men being ignored because statistically it is seen as more rare, although I have a theory that this is because of the pressure put on men to not be seen as victims so that they don't come forward. Also all of the feminists I know go into huge discussions about the fact that the media acts like men are imbeciles and childish when trying to advertise towards women and how it wrong.
