I remember about 10-15 years ago there was a British Indian women on TV who was a match-maker. She was highly criticised for insisting that the people she matched were from a similar social-economic background. She basically explained it with similar ideas as are found in this article and I can remember at the time thinking it was common sense and that her critics were wrong.

Whenever I read stuff like this I find it hard to believe that means I'm as hot and smart as my fiancé :p

There is something very comforting about marrying a man very similar to yourself. My husband and I are from the same background, are the same age, grew up a mile apart, went to the same college with the same major, we are both tall, and of similar attractiveness. We have the same memories of childhood although we didn't know each other as children. We have the same values and the same outlook on life.

I'm certain that opposites can attract, but it is nice to fit together so well as very like individuals.

Same with us! We didn't know each other growing up, which is amazing considering we grew up in the same rural area at the same time, our parents have similar cultures and tradition, we have the same interests and values. He even used to shop at the same hardware store that I had my first ever job at. We had eerily similar childhoods and it just makes everything really easy and familiar with him.

In terms of looks, it's almost comical and has become a running joke with our friends. "Oh look, the Scandinavian Ski Team has shown up!"

But how does he satisfy your hypergamy?!

[–]TempestTcup points points points 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

LOL! People were more civilized in the early 80s, so whereas hypergamy was still a thing, it wasn't as pronounced as it is now. Plus, we were both super hot when we met :)

More civilized? But I was told that was the age of patriarchal dinosaurs Oppressing everyone and u could cal someone a faggot and not get fired!

This is so cool! It really confirms a lot of conventional wisdom (e.g. the idea of someone being in or out of your "league") and it is totally in line with what we discuss on RPW all the time. Compatibility is just more likely when the people themselves are similar.
