I know that I might have contributed to that feeling, it's not that I don't value female friendship it's that I cannot find anyone who is like-minded. If I just settle I find myself either trying to push my ideas on them or their ideas intrude into my life. I can't seem to win. I thank my lucky stars to have found this community and very much value the "cyber-friendships" I have found here.

This is also it for me.

And women do annoy me (yes, I annoy myself). But I do see the value in having female friends.

For an intimate marriage, you need several friends who know you well and whom you can entrust with any secret. Without confidantes, the chances of becoming overly needy or smothering your husband are great.

…

Conferring with women who are dear to you will make your surrendering journey easier and keep you focused on the rewards. (pg. 120)

I really suck at this one IRL, y'all. I'm glad I have my online communities but obviously need something more intimate. Definitely need to work on this which is easier said than done in our current climate.

I mentioned this book in a thread in /r/mommit recently, and I was downvoted. Good female friends encourage a stronger marriage. A friend who is encouraging you to divorce will not likely be there to help you put your life back together. I don't know if by climate you mean the cold, or the cultural environment that I feel stifles the building of healthy emotional communities.

Me too, girl. I had female friends, but we've drifted apart or they became bad influences and blurred what I really wanted by being so insistent on what they wanted for me.

My husband calls this "cultivating" relationships and he often encourages me to call people and make plans and put myself out there. He has some very tight knit friendships with men he's known since kindergarten. I don't really have those relationships and it's challenging. Most of his friends have awesome wives and over the past 5 years I've come to know them a lot better. I think those are the women who I should foster relationships with.

I would like to have a couple of female friends, but I attend school at one of the biggest party schools in the US, so the girls I'm surrounded by are not the kind of people I can relate to or want to spend my time with. It's rather unfortunate, but at the same time, my SO will always be my preferred companion.

I'm fortunate in this one. I met my group of girlfriends in middle school at a wilderness camp and we would reunite at this camp every summer and keep in contact with letters during the year. We are now scattered throughout the country but we all get together twice a year, and in smaller groups more often. They have transcended friendship for me into some sort of family-type relationship. It is partly so rich because I have deep friendships with women who I probably wouldn't meet (different social circles and interests) in my life now. We have career women, drifters, stay-at-home-moms, hippies, etc.

The dynamics of the group matured as we did. In our early 20s we would spend a lot of time bitching about our boyfriends, angry that they weren't making us happy. Somewhere we stopping bitching and started making ourselves happy and focusing on having healthy relationships. Now we have a culture of supporting each other's marriages. I feel so lucky to have these women, it feels like a sisterhood instead of just friendship.

Now I just need a friend in my city who I can grab a drink with occasionally, and I'll be set. I joke that I haven't made a friend since middle school. It's sad because it's true...

Seems like a common thread that a lot of us here struggle with this...myself included. Lately, every time I meet a woman who seems likeable I hear the word "divorce" or "ex-husband" or some other thing come out of her mouth moments later. Not that I think that automatically disqualifies someone for friendship, but it's still disappointing. Are my expectations too high?

I think this one is really hard for a lot of us (especially the younger ones), because of how we were brought up. Honestly, the competition among women makes it very hard to find honest and true female friends at all, let alone ones who also think RP is the way to go. The other issue with connecting to other (non RP) women is the issue of what to discuss. Most women immediately fall into a gossip-fest about their SOs. Luckily, I have one female close friend who is RP (but doesn't know the terminology, and therefore doesn't call herself that), and I'm definitely going to do my best to foster that relationship.
