The recent discussion on whether a woman should leave her LTR after he became permanently disabled was pretty eye opening. But! I want to talk about it, so let’s talk about it.

In what situation, if any, would it be okay, socially acceptable, permissible, understandable, or expected for you to walk away from a spouse who can no longer be your captain through no fault (presumably) of his own? Specifically if he becomes mentally or physically handicapped. I don’t mean relationships where you go into your marriage knowing your husband is on the spectrum. Like, you knew what you were getting into with that.

What factors do you take into consideration? Your age? His age? How long you’ve been together? Are you just boyfriend/girlfriend? Are you in a committed relationship but not married? Are you officially married? Did you actually take the “in sickness and in health” vow? Even if you didn’t, is it implied in an LTR when you “defined” the relationship? Does the length of the handicap matter? Will he ever recover? Fully? (Stroke?) Will his illness start off manageable but become more and more of a “burden”? (Stephen & Jane Hawking) Can the handicap be overcome in some other, but lesser way? (Prosthetic leg/arm.) And is that enough? Do finances/insurance play a role in this? Children? Does his attitude about his lessened ability matter? (I would say yes.)

Does the 22 year old who’s been with her boyfriend for 6 months become a primary caregiver to a man who’ll need a nurse for the rest of his life? What if she wants kids and now he can’t give them to her? Does the 55 year old who’s been married for 30 years and raised a family and has a lifetime of memories get to just pack up and go?

Is this just a matter of every case being different? We could think of 100 different scenarios with if/then caveats. Where do you draw the line for yourself?

Is this even relevant to The Red Pill?
