I know it feels like someone just ripped your heart out and stomped on it with spiked shoes right now, but trust me when I say it will get better. There are people who only come into your life to teach you something, and then when you have learned what you needed to, they leave. It hurts, but know this: when the person you were meant to be with comes along, your ex will pale in comparison. I've been right where you're at, and when my fiancé came into my life, it was like everyone I'd ever been with before was nothing compared to him. You're going to get through this, I promise. Delete his number and block it, block him on facebook (I suggest you just don't go on facebook for at least a week, so you're not tempted) and just take some time to heal. Do things that you love. Read a book, watch a movie, hang out with your friends, distract yourself. In a few months you'll feel a lot better.

Just stop.

You don't talk to him ever. Remove him completely. Get rid of all pictures, contact information. Imagine as if you have never met him at all.

I know it is hard. I know you can do it. I am just telling that until you make the effort to completely remove him, it won't go away.

Pain at separation/loss is part of being human; pair bonding wouldn't work without this.

It takes time to get back to a baseline of normal after a big life disruption like this; sometimes on the order of months. The best you can do is not dwell on the loss, but try to keep busy with normal life. Invest now in self-improvement. Work out rather than indulge in comfort food during low moments.

The good news is there are 3,500,000,000 other potential partners in the world once you are ready. ;)

Hang in there. I went through the same thing with my first love (3 years living together, my best friend, my everything). Keep yourself busy, commit to activities that will expose yourself to new people, reconnect with old friends... Do whatever it takes (even if it feels like work) to keep your spirits up.

It will be very hard, but with time and new experiences, the pain will fade and you'll appreciate a new perspective on your ex and future relationships. Hugs.
