The model of behavior presented here is shockingly accurate. So much so that it makes you want to show it off to your friends and use it to save them from themselves.

As we all know, this is not usually a good idea. Every other day, someone will post a thread saying, "Introduced a friend to TRP, it didn't go well."

Most of you (hopefully) understand that most of the time it's best to just sit back and watch people collide head first with reality. Then you get to enjoy the "yup" feeling: a light dusting of helplessness on top of the warm satisfaction of knowing something someone else doesn't.

An example:

You are sitting on the balcony of the condo where your milquetoast friend resides. The two of have been drinking beers and shooting the shit. He recounts a first date he had recently wherein he took one lucky lady to a fancy restaurant, paid for everything, and was on his best behavior. Pulling out chairs and everything. This girl was “at least a 7 or 8″ and he can’t believe his good fortune.

You do some quick math and ask, ”How old is she?”

“Oh, about 29, turning 30 this year. She says she was wilder in her younger days, but she said she got it all out of her system and she’s looking to settle down now.”

You look into your friend’s face. Talking about his good fortunes has given him an ear to ear grin. You take a long pull off your brew as you stare off into the distance, at nothing in particular, and say…

“Yup.”
