Good evening, all. I am a public figure at my university and I fucked up today, so want to know what is the best way to handle this and avoid damage to my reputation from a red pill perspective.

I am a newly elected public figure at my university. Today, at our first E-board meeting, the guy sitting next to me brought up the topic of sexual assault that exists on campus. The guy was mocking rape victims (implying that women exaggerated and were responsible for it), and then mocked Antoine Dodson. Because the guy was sitting next to me and laughing and not taking the issue serious, I broke out laughing too, especially when he mocked Antoine Dodson. (I had never been to a meeting before and hadn't tested the waters before, but everyone seemed chill.) I know rape is a serious issue, and I tried to control myself, but the guys demeanor was just so funny for me to not break out laughing. I was laughing at the guy btw, not the issue. Everyone looked at me, and asked me why I was laughing, someone in the audience also called me out on it, and said it was not funny.

I didn't apologize at the meeting, because I wasn't laughing at rape, I was laughing at the guy and the way he said. I think some people knew that, but because I am new and they don't know my personality, and the fact that there was an audience there, it looks bad for me.

All of my friends on the e-board, avoided even making eye contact with me or even talking to me. Some of the women there were cordial to me, but others gave me dirty looks, and shunned me.

How do I handle or clarify this situation in a way that doesn't destroy my reputation.

If I try to sweep this under the rug, people will hate me, so I think I have to acknowledge something. If I send out an email clarifying it, I will just bring more publicity to the issue. I'm leaning on sending out a letter though. What should I say in it or what should I do?
