A lot has been said about the transformative power of lifting, sticking to ones mission and not putting pussy on the pedestal. That is all fine and dandy, however, I feel we are seriously underestimating the transformative power of art.

A good piece of art can awaken a quality in your soul that did not yet know you posssessed, it can transform you into a better man and give you perspectives on life you might not have aquired otherwise.

Nowadays, with everything available all of the time, on could consume art 24/7 and still not have enough time in his life appreciate or even see it all. The more there is available, the more there is a need for curators to procure pieces that are a worthwhile invest of your time.

Big media corporations and the global mainstream are doing their best to be that kind of curator, however, they are mostly peddling their own agenda, and the lack of quality of recent art shows exactly that. Nowadays, every idiot with a laptop can slap together a song, write a bullshit script or doodle some furry porn into deviant art - and who makes it to the top is not a question of merit, but of political alignment.

This is why I had the idea for an art thread - a place where we can be our own curators.

This is how it goes.

  1. Post a maximum of three pieces of art. They can be of any medium (music, painting, comedy, cinema, etc) and any genre (rock, opera, etc). The only deciding factor should be that you consider them the very best and most important of your life.
  2. Explain why these particular pieces are important to you and what makes them special in your opinion.
  3. Highlight the objective quality of the piece that sets it apart and above others of its kind. What insights can be gained into the mastery with which the piece was created?

Footnote: While art may indeed be a highly subjective topic, a Rembrandt will always be miles above some feminists period on canvas. Try to pick the art with the highest degree of mastery involved.
