I have delusions of grandeur, and if I ever achieve them having my voice on the podcast would cause problems, but I have a story too pathetic not to share.

I started liking girls a lot earlier than most of my peers. Think pre-school early. Everyone else, including my peers and parents, gave me a ton of shit for it, so I developed a complex where I would never express any sexual interest in anything or anyone under any circumstances. What was smart strategy at 5 became utterly counterproductive by the time I hit 15.

Throughout high school I had no dating experience and not much of a social life- I was grinding hard on academics and thinking long term. Our school had a solid and fairly co-ed sports program, and I was on several teams- gotta get those extracurriculars for college. I made friends with my teammates and members of the girl’s squads and I spent so much time killing it in school I was confident to the point of arrogance, constantly cracking jokes while answering questions, but I was approachable enough to be the go to guy for group projects and help with homework, so while I wasn’t the life of the party whenever I did climb off the pedestal I’d put myself on I was welcomed by pretty much everyone. My SMV was decent in retrospect- I was fit, top of the class, funny enough, didn’t really give a fuck- but I gave so few fucks that I got none in return.

Right before Spring Break a girl in my math class is talking about how she and her best friend’s families are both going on a cruise together. I knew both of them from sports as well as class, so picture two 18 year olds who take really good care of themselves- they were some of the hottest girls in the school. By complete coincidence it turns out that my family scheduled a vacation on the same ship and I get to spend a week with these fit babes in the tropics with bikinis and a lowered drinking age. They’re both pretty enthusiastic about it; I’m playing it cool but my upper and lower heads are overwhelmed by the possibilities.

The vacation starts and we board the ship. The girls and their parents are staying in separate cabins- my brother and I have a similar set up. After we set sail we make our way over to their stateroom- the door is open and the parents are down the hall but it’s just us for the moment. They start unpacking, and make a big show of debating where they’re going put their underwear and bikinis. It takes pretty much all of my self control not to have some kind of reaction, but I pull it off. And at that point they give up. The girl from my math class scrunches up her face for a second, and said one sentence that get even clueless me to realize how monumentally I had fucked up.

“You know, you’d make a really good brother.”

That’s about as low as you can get. Turns out that when you refuse to present yourself as a sexual option, women stop seeing you as a sexual option. Funny how that works. It was a real kick in the cock, and I got to spend the next week in the sun thinking about why I wasn’t in the stateroom fooling around with two of the most attractive girls I knew. Ultimately that led me to TRP, so it all worked out in the end... but if I had only found the sidebar a couple of weeks earlier...

I'll briefly list two major fuck-ups I've made in the past, one money-related, the other dating-related. You don't have to read these verbatim on the show.

Dating-Related

When I was 18 (I'm 27 now), my first GF was initially my plate. In the beginning, I ran the show & called all the shots. I eventually became pussy-whipped to the extreme, committed to her, prioritized her above all else, and my life began to fray apart. I became a full-time hedonist and obsessed over screwing her and getting fucked up on whatever drugs I could get ahold of.

It doesn't take a genius to guess what followed. More "girls night outs" on her part, her being strangely distant, then her eventually trickle-truthing and admitting she cheated on me. She dumped me soon after. I got my life in order a few years later, and even though we broke up years ago, she still sends me nudes and calls me non-stop (which I ignore, because I'm on my mission).

Money-related

I've always had a strong interest in history and economics, but didn't get my first taste of playing in the financial markets until the pandemic happened. I made an extremely reckless, all-in bet in a crypto trade and my initial investment 6x'd. I thought I was a God. The first trade I made was a screaming success. The 6x gain was unrealized, by the way.

Instead of taking profits and realizing how lucky I'd gotten, I began fantasizing about the Tesla I'd buy, the luxury clothes that'd fill my closet, the haters I'd shit on, etc., once my investment 12x'd (because shit, it's going straight to 12x with no downturns, right?)

Reality eventually slammed me in the face. The crypto I was in began to sink. Hard. The 6x in unrealized gains quickly sank to 3.8x. I didn't take any profits, "this is obviously a temporary dip," I thought. The 3.8x gain dips to 2.1x. I start getting nervous, but my ego felt entitled to the 6x gain so I stayed in the trade. Once the investment dipped down to a 1.8x gain, I finally exited the trade and converted the shitcoin I was speculating in back to Bitcoin.

Had I not been an egomaniac, and consulted with someone with solid investment experience, there's no way I would've made that colossal noobie mistake. But I learned a ton from making screw-up, so I'm not resentful of it.

My biggest advice to anyone reading this: make sure you have friends that will call you out on your bullshit and point out gaps in your thinking. Also, if you haven't tasted real success yet and are just beginning to, read "Ego Is The Enemy" by Ryan Holiday.

Just got broken up with by a girl after I let myself slip into BP-ness. Absolutely classic fuckup. I won't go into too many details, but she is planning on going to a prestigious grad school in the fall and I suggested to her that she wait a year while I finish grad school where we are. The relationship was only a few weeks old. Now that it's over I'm looking back with more RP clarity, and I made the classic mistake of letting myself believe that because she was giving me so many expressions of interest, I could stop being RP.
