I’m currently working on my MAP. I’ve been trying to internalize the concepts of frame, dread, and shutting the fuck up. I understand the importance of boundaries and enforcing them. I find myself struggling with the concept of pulling time and attention away. Before I started on my MAP, I desperately sought validation from my wife. This would show itself during times where I felt disrespected or when she would cross a boundary that I had no intention of enforcing. I would ignore her and refuse to answer any question she may ask me. I wouldn’t separate myself from her because I felt she needed to see that I’m pissed off. In other words, stonewalling like a bitch. This would eventually turn into her asking me what my problem is followed by massive amounts of gaslighting on her part and DEERing on my part until I eventually get worn out and give up.

After realizing the bitter truth of my validation-seeking behaviors, I find myself trying to pull my time and attention away without caring so much about her validating my feelings. Now I focus on my work, fitness, and children. Keeping myself busy. The issue comes when she tries to actively seek me out to initiate conversation just for the sake of talking. It usually ends with me saying “I don’t want to talk to you about this right now.” I say this in a calm, stoic voice but it’s clear to us both I am very pissed off. Sometimes, when I’m playing with my children without her, she will try to involve herself in the game, resulting in me separating myself from the game.

This method does result in her correcting her bullshit but I still think I have this dread thing all wrong.

Am I doing this dread thing all wrong? Did I just find a more elaborate way to stonewall like a bitch?
