When I was in the military as a young lad, I had zero frame. Zero self-respect. I was a mess.

Anyway, as the new guy in my unit I showed up to work with a pack of twinkies. Two twinkies come in a package. So I'm sitting in the break room with a bunch of people and this dude I hadn't met yet, about 5-7 years older than me and several ranks higher than me, introduces himself.

Then he says, "hey man, mind if I have one of those?"

And I'm sitting there thinking, fuck I don't want to give this complete stranger HALF of my snack. I really don't. But I'm the new guy, I'm low-rank and low status. I guess I have to.

So I looked down and kind of grumbled, "Ok."

And the dude laughed and slapped me on the shoulder and said "man I'm just kidding, I'm not trying to take half your shit"

That was a "male shit test". He wanted to see if I would stand up for myself or let him bully me.

It depends. Sometimes it's fucking around, other times it may be an attempt to put you down. It's the difference between teasing, and attacking.

If it's a blatant attack, then it's insecurity, otherwise, it's a test to see what you're made of. Are you too soft? What makes you tick? It's an indication that they've noticed you, and are at least interested in you.

There are at least 2 people involved, so there will be the first person's perspective, then the second person's perspective, and then the truth. What's said, how it's said, there are a few variables.

Guys will shit test eachother to see if they are cool to hangout with. To see if ur a normal fun human being.

Or a bully is seeing what u made of.

Example

You could walking down the street and a random guy says.

"Yo man thats a cool sweater, did yo grandma make that for u?"

You could be offensive and say "what chu say about my grandma" and lose a potential friendship and show u cant take a joke.

Or pass it "yeah she made it for me, but i was living at your mums house last week she just gave it back to me last night." This shows u got balls and that ur a funny guy.
