Reading this thread, I'm realizing how much of a fucking idiot I was in the past. This sub was one of my favorite subs a couple of years ago, and it's a leftover from those days, I hate seeing it in my feed but I get a laugh occasionally and I was too lazy to click unsub.

You guys are a bunch of raging mysogynists acting like women usually get a pass-but they don't, is that some stupid joke I don't get? It's so obviously untrue. They don't have any advantage in anything statistically, except maybe custody proceedings. Sure, that's a problem that needs to be solved, but it's clear statistically that women get paid on average less, but you guys pretend it's not true because of these articles you read on the internet about women getting out of stuff-beyond the fact that they're anecdotes, they create your worldview where you unironically believe that men are oppressed.

It's wrong. Here's why:

Out of the 500 fortune 500 companies, 32 have female ceos.

1/5 of Congress is female.

No president in history has been female.

The infamous "pink tax" is actually real: products marketed towards women actually do cost more. Women's deodorant costs an average of 5.99 while men's costs 3.29.

The gender wage gap is real but not for the reasons you think is argued. No one actually thinks that women literally make 77¢ on a man's dollar. What the statistic actually shows is that women are both less able and less likely to get as high paying jobs as men. Partially, this is due to personal choice, but that figure actually controls for that variable. It's also likely due to women being less likely to ask for a raise because they fear being denied the raise, which is not entirely unreasonable.

10 million women face domestic violence each year, far more then men.

Women are typically overrepresented in low paying jobs. They hold 76% of jobs paying under $10.10 an hour.

The gender inequality index produced by the UN measures reproductive health (maternal mortality, infant mortality, adolescent birth rates), empowerment (based on their status in government), and economic status (labor policy, market participation, etc). We score a 0.2 on a 0-1 scale, lower than all highly developed nation's (I mean all).

Women who have babies are much more likely to face pay reductions than men who take paternity leave.

There is no law requiring men and women who produce work of equal value to paid the same, preventing women from taking their employers to court for doing so.

1963 - Equal Pay Act was passed by Congress which makes it illegal to pay someone less based on sex. This is also often stated in claims when people go to court to fight for equal pay.

Companies don’t often publish pay, and an average of something is not the best reflection of payscale. A daycare center worker should not be paid as much as a neurosurgeon and oftentimes women go for different degrees, don’t go into STEM and choose an easier path. Some people take easier jobs or jobs that traditionally pay less. To compare whole salary with medians or averages for national salary is absolutely the wrong way to measure pay just ask any person that deals with stats or data. People keep citing dumb suit like women get paid less for doing the Same work or job but it’s illegal for companies to do so and the could be taken to court thanks to the equal pay act that was passed more than 50 years ago and thanks to the Lily Ledbetter Fair Pay Act of 2009. Most people just wanna scream into the void with no real research and act like women have it tough out there, but we literally live in a society where discrimination is illegal and someone that is ACTUALLY being discriminated against can take someone to court for damages done if they have tangible evidence.

So gtfo out of here with unequal. Today’s feminist movement is about having your cake and eating it too, while doing nothing for the sake of equality, but moreso for equity purposes and the right to complain expounded by social media.

Also women can choose to buy products that aren’t “pink.” Literally things that are designed to fuck over women can be subverted with some very simple lifestyle choices. If women in aggregate did things to make things more equal, advertising, politics, and the state of gender equality would change, but they’re the ones paying out for the pink razors, getting the shitty jobs that pay less and not getting the degrees and certifications/ work as many hours/ take less vacations/ take the risk to ask for more to warrant higher salaries.

On the flip side, I've met plenty of powerful women that actually get shit done and don't complain about state of the world because the realize it's about how much effort put in for what you get back (you reap what you sow). They've asked for those raises, promotions, etc. I work in the advertising/marketing industry and see plenty of female execs, EVPs, data scientists, software engineers, etc, and even though that's anecdotal evidence that doesn't warrant significance, I'd say my observation is still more accurate than your fucking fallacy of an argument. Also, to add... I once identified as a feminist too, until I realized what a dumpster fire the movement is and how far from the actual tenets of true equality it poses. Most feminists complain about wage gap among other things, but have no background for warranting their own raises or what they would deem "fair pay." I don't expect a women's studies major with with no credible skills other than trying to prove inequity exists through papers to be paid much unless they pursue a doctorate and becoming a professor.. do you? I was a political science major and had no job prospects until I buckled down and studied coding and earned certifications in my own time. The amount of effort I put in and sacrifices I made to get to where I am I barely see in the women you complain for.

Yeah look, if you decide to look at biased policy research institutions that do studies with no control factors and arrive at dubious overarching conclusions and try to call that same work and same value, then you're just citing fake news.

Here's a study from Harvard University looking at specific industry where controls are present.

At the end of the day 4-7 cents as a wage gap is an X factor dependent on what choices at the job men and women make. Meanwhile, there is the argument that family obligations are unfairly a woman's domain or have been. Well if Feminists cared so much about disassociating from being a primary caretaker and having to take off, the fight for paternity leave should be equal to that of the fight for maternity leave. FMLA or family related work benefits should be bolstered for both genders but most will only argue for themselves. I believe the gap is fair until nationally, both parents can take off instead of one side.

On the other hand, the amount of vacations taken vs overtime hours accepted are different between men and women. There are plenty of choice based values that the average working man and the average working woman make that contribute to the disparity. So screeching to try and close that gap would make inequity in the work force because youd have men working overtime for equal pay to women taking off for vacations and not accepting the overtime. That's what you're arguing for and I don't accept it.

At the end of the day, crying for equal pay is actually crying for more pay for less work for one gender. Unless the playing field can be leveled for fair share of benefits and more efforts in part taken by women to do more work/overtime/accept weekends, etc then I think the gap is fair.

bruv... that's true but it's only because women are actually willing to buy that expensive stuff. How about you start a Kickstarter campaign to make cheap high-quality products for women to eliminate that "pink tax"?? If this is really such a big issue for everyone I will guarantee you that you will be a fucking successful CEO in no time. If you see a problem - solve it. That's what successful people do since the beginning of mankind. Stop complaining and do something about the stuff that you don't like.
