Just message when you want to…. You can’t ask people because it’s all different people, different relationships and thus different dynamics - all are unique and what works in one doesn’t work in another.

I don't care who messages first, or if she ever messages me first for that matter. Current girlfriend doesn't have her phone up her ass so I send a good morning text and she responds within 15 minutes or several hours (I wake up early so I don't expect quick responses here). And at night, we check in briefly with a few exchanges that sometimes have considerable gaps in either of our responses. BUT, she's always demonstrating her interest in me by remembering little details and trying to make plans with me.

Frankly, I prefer this, because the "need constant contact and instant responses" thing is super exhausting and I'm normally a very busy person. I like not having to worry about replying fast enough or sweating when/how she's going to respond.
