I read /r/okcupid every once in a while. They discuss things like how you can machine-gun fire messages in OKC, but not in POF and how it's pretty much the best thing ever for them. I disagree with them.

My thought is this: If you post a generic "Would you rather fight 25 duck sized horses..." type question, you're only going to get messages back from pretty girls who:

Have kids
Are really fucking dumb
Are new to the site (actually this is your best chance of a quality girl)
Aren't interested, but will kindly message you back
Will call you out on using a rapid-fire canned opener

So yeah, you'll have 10-20 messages chilling in your inbox on a given day, but you also sent out rapid-fires to 200 girls. With that effort you could have already gotten 5-10 # closes at the bar.

And finally, this strategy only really works well if you're in a big city (NYC, LA, Toronto). If you're in a mid-sized, ~1,000,000 resident or less city, you're going to dry up the well quickly. After a month of rapid firing, you only have left the new girls.

I find a more successful method is to listen to the fucking advice that's posted on every dating advice site ever: "Find something in her profile and relate to it." I probably have a 60% response rate, which I think is fucking great, and I'm not a handsome dude. The only thing I do that they don't tell me to do is turn on the flirting and teasing from message 1.

I am the writer of this blog and post, btw. I appreciate what you are saying but I respectfully disagree. As I've stated, it takes literally seconds to send out rapid-fires to 200 girls. "Generic" doesn't equate to "bad", in fact my openers are quite good (imo, but you may disagree based on the one example I've given).

I don't believe in batting average and think it's a bad way to improve your success in the game. I don't know or care about what my response rate is. I am operating out of abundance. Every situation is independent from the rest. I only have girls who respond enter my attention, and they have the absolute minimum amount of my attention until they are sitting next to me at a bar.

I send a massive amount of messages, this is true. But I spend 10-20m on okc a night (after studying), and I have maybe 10-20 responses a week. This is a low response rate. However, those 10-20 responses are number closes, and then they are dates, and they are successful dates. I've probably had a 100% success rate with dates I've gotten from OKC this past year.

The premise of my post is that you are hyper selective with the girls you message, so the ones who eventually come to meet you are basically perfect for you. I actually meet girls with whom I have fulfilling and stimulating relationships with (non-exclusive, but I rarely have one night stands).
