Saturday Night-solo

I started with dinner at a local tavern taking the last open seat at the end of the bar next to 2 women who were eating dinner. As I sat down I jokingly thanked them for saving me a seat and asked them about what they were eating , found out they were visiting from out of state – just up for the weekend. The HB7 kept mentioning her boyfriend, “my boyfriend still owns a house here, so we come up to visit sometimes blah blah. I playfully accused them of making up the whole story about where they were from. As I finished my dinner and the HB7 said – “I think you should stick around for another drink” – I declined because I was wanted to move on the next venue. I left feeling warmed up!

Next I went to a dive bar I rarely go to and marched up to the bar. I looked at the HB5 and HB7 sitting next to me and said ‘you guys look so bored! – (they did) and they warmed right up. I then recognized that I’d me the HB6.5 once before but didn’t remember her name. I immediately starting paying closer attention to the HB5 who was sitting right next to me. This is the first time I’d attempted this, but watching the HB7 squirm in her seat as I paid attention to her friend was - well the impact was exactly as advertised, she couldn’t stand it!. After 15 minutes of this alternating attention, some of HB7 friends walked over. I decided it was time to attempt a # close and move on to another bar. I walked over to get her number before leaving, but first, in what was an alpha move for me, interrupted the guy that was talking to her by introducing myself to him.. Then I gave HB7 a hug and was about to ask for her number when she said ‘ look me up on facebook’ The next afternoon I friended her and sent a note ‘ Hey, nice to see you last night. Let’s get a drink at <Bar Name> on Wednesday at 8pm’ (In hindsight I should have just sent the message and not ‘friended’ her, oh well. So we’re going out Wednesday! I have lots of prepping to do for Wednesday – to unlearn years of AFC 1st date behavior. Before reading all the stuff on Seddit, the interaction would have gone something like this 1)Sheepishly enter bar 2)Scan the room repeatedly 3)Recognize hb7, talk to her, give her way too much attention, barely acknowledge her friend, sit quietly when her other friends approach. 4) Even if given the FB invite, my message to her would have been something like ‘It was great to see you! You’re hot! Would you like to get a drink sometime?”
