Women like to vent. It’s what they do. We will always do this. What I’ve learned over the years is that men hate this shit and don’t understand it. I’ve learned to stop expecting my husband to care about work and friend drama. I call my mom and talk to her on the drive home from work and vent to her so when I get home- it’s done. But this was something that took time to realize. Women share stories and empathize with each other. It’s how we bond. It perfectly okay to respectfully not want to be the venting person. My friends husband gives her 10 minutes to talk about work - and then she isn’t allowed to talk about work anymore. ( that’s a little shitty, but I absolutely understand the sentiment behind it)

I agree! I don’t think you should even be in the “buddy” position- that’s not where you want to be. I’m just saying, recognize when that’s happening- its not mental illness, it’s design, and just say something like- sorry you had a rough day - that’s sucks - Maybe we should grab a drink and ( fill in the blank) I think it’s perfectly okay to allow yourself to be someone’s venting partner- in any relationship at any stage.
