That depends on how you define masculinity. It's a fairly nebulous term.

I agree that it’s a case of both nature and nurture. But the question is, which one plays a bigger role?
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates31/07/23 08:55 PM

I didn't mean "few" in a literal sense. Though r/mensupportmen is a nice place.

What is it then?

I don’t think this sub should be restricted. It’s one of the few positive male spaces that reject both Feminist ideology and RedPill ideology.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates14/06/23 06:21 PM

Define toxic masculinity. Define traditional masculinity and tell me how it differs from toxic masculinity. Then, define positive masculinity.

Men and boys are not becoming bigger idiots every generation…
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates20/04/23 02:13 PM
3

But the problem is that all boys are different. The education system needs a revamp that's more than just a "one size fits all" scenario.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates14/04/23 01:53 AM

I agree that education needs an overhaul, but I don’t like the idea of gendering it.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates13/04/23 06:26 PM

I still dislike the idea of enrolling boys into school a year later.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates13/04/23 04:43 PM

In my opinion, masculinity not something that can be easily be reduced to XYZ traits. Masculinity is something innate in men that differentiates us from women. What I mean is you can have a male character and a female character act the exact same way and yet, there’s going to be a different “energy” between the two. As a result, I think of “toxic masculinity” as being in the same vain as calling something “toxic whiteness” or “toxic gayness”. I don’t think of masculinity being good or bad. I don…
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates10/04/23 04:28 PM

I’ve been saying this for a while. Masculinity is a vague term. And as a consequence, positive masculinity and toxic masculinity are even more vague.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates10/04/23 04:23 PM

I dislike those two comments that regurgitate the psuedo-science bs.

Hopefully there’s no fire alarms at this event…

So I don’t understand why we define things as “masculine” and “feminine” when traits associated with both have increasingly been gender neutral.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates15/03/23 12:36 PM

Your idea of “positive masculinity” seems gender neutral.

I agree that it’s mostly socialization. But I think biology does have a significant play.

I believe the rules are fine as they are.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates08/02/23 04:18 PM

How do we redefine masculinity when many of the traits associated with the concept are becoming gender neutral? From where I look nowadays, masculinity and femininity don't seem too different.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates01/02/23 03:13 AM
2

Like another comment said, I don’t like how the game seemingly supports “sacrificial masculinity”.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates27/01/23 01:34 PM
4

Shouldn’t we be saying that men don’t have to be sacrificial instead?
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates27/01/23 01:33 PM

Did anyone see that tweet from Matt Walsh about male babysitters?
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates20/01/23 06:38 PM

I think it's due to this idea that "fathers are useless" which means that they can never do enough.

Oh, okay.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates11/01/23 10:13 PM

So being a nice person? That’s gender neutral.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates10/01/23 02:23 PM

The thing is though is that most traits associated with “positive masculinity” are usually gender neutral.

The definition of “The Patriarchy” is constantly shifting.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates09/01/23 05:51 PM

It’s just the traditional masculinity with extra tasks. Instead of being stoic, you have to be emotional… just not too emotional or else that will be emotional labor. You still have to be the main provider… but also have to do more housework. You have to go out of your way to protect women… but also recognize their independence and self-capability.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates09/01/23 05:38 PM

Almost no one, except from some conservatives who used their chance to call out the hypocrisy, saw anything wrong with it. This is the reason why conservatives are not allies to men. They don't care about male issues because they truly care about men, they care about male issues to spite regressive leftists.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates28/12/22 11:42 PM
27

Where's the defense to Tate? All I am seeing is criticism towards that specific joke. If there was a female celebrity who was known for being an asshole, and a male celebrity made some sexist comment towards her, do you think people would be okay with that?
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates28/12/22 11:36 PM
3

But the problem is that “masculinity” is a vague term that means different things to different people.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates21/12/22 03:34 PM
3

It’s a bad term regardless. Look at Moist-Quiet-647 comment.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates21/12/22 03:33 PM
3

In your original comment, you never specified the definition of these terms, nor did you specify what differs traditional masculinity from toxic masculinity. For example, you said that your leadership style is “masculine”. What do you mean by this and how does it differ from feminine leadership?
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates21/12/22 03:28 PM
5

What is Toxic Masculinity? What is Traditional Masculinity? How does it differ from Toxic Masculinity? What is Healthy Masculinity?
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates21/12/22 12:25 AM
7

Everyone likes food, right? But only good food. Not toxic food. When I say “toxic food” I mean “food that happens to be toxic.” I don’t mean “all food is toxic”. For some reason, that distinction isn’t working similarly with “toxic masculinity.” I believe the reason why is because "masculinity" is a nebulous term. Ask ten different people what it means, you'll get ten wildly differently answers. In turn, this would make the term "toxic masculinity" even more vague.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates21/12/22 12:20 AM
1

I don’t think it’s quite that. I think I know what it is, I just can’t describe it exactly.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates16/12/22 07:48 PM
1

Really? What percentage of men do you believe do those things?
/r/EverydayMisandry16/12/22 03:56 PM
1

That’s due to the misandric media giving you a skewed impression of men.
/r/EverydayMisandry16/12/22 03:54 PM
1

Then you wouldn't say we suck.
/r/EverydayMisandry15/12/22 12:16 AM
3

Masculinity and femininity are interesting. We know (as in, on a deep level) what they are, but we can't give a proper definition. Conversations about masculinity always go something like this: Strawman 1: "Masculinity is being XYZ traits." Strawman 2: "But can't women also have XYZ traits?" Strawman 1: "Yes." Strawman 2: "So why are they considered masculine?" My current hypothesis is that masculinity and femininity are more about presence rather than personality.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates15/12/22 12:15 AM

It would be great if men weren’t told that they’re doing “emotional labor”.

most women aren't in the position to be that strict about height, either Sure they are. Most women aren't asking for a 6+ tall man, that's just a stereotype. However, most women want a man who is taller than them.
/r/EverydayMisandry21/11/22 03:00 AM
26

I believe that it's fine that women generally don't want to date short men. You can't exactly force people to date others they don't find physically attractive. But in that case, women shouldn't be complaining about "unrealistic body standards" from men. If men in general have a preference for women who are skinny and/or have big breasts, they shouldn't be criticized for it. It's not like most men are in the position to be strict with their preferences anyway.
/r/EverydayMisandry21/11/22 02:36 AM

Man abuses woman: "He's the abuser!" Man and woman abuse each other: "He's the abuser!" Woman abuses man: "They abused each other!"

Instead of blaming women, blame feminists.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates18/11/22 02:35 AM
3

How do we solve the issue of the female in-group bias? What is toxic masculinity? What is traditional masculinity? How does traditional masculinity and toxic masculinity differ? What’s positive masculinity? How does it differ from femininity?
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates17/11/22 07:31 PM
9

It's also good to share awareness about how intentionally vague feminist concepts are, such "toxic masculinity" and "patriarchy" and how they're harming men and boys.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates14/11/22 04:45 AM
18

I've seen something even more insidious. Feminists attempting to take over IMD and using it for their own agenda.

u/Tedfordshire explained it best.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates13/11/22 10:05 PM

From what I have seen, feminism and racism often go hand-in-hand.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates13/11/22 02:36 AM

I just dislike the term “toxic masculinity” because of how vague it is.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates11/11/22 09:42 PM
24

That's actually a point I never thought of. You could easily argue with the same point: I have absolutely 0 pity for women for the "orgasm gap." They can get over it. It's not a need, it's a want.

Mental health An issue that male advocates are trying to fix, but there's a distinct lack of funding and focus of men's mental health due to gynocentrism. And even when there is attention to this area, the services men receive are extremely poor in quality. Toxic masculinity One, this is a vague term that can be defined in many ways. Two, why exactly is it that that men are supposedly acting toxic? Because women (in-general) reward that behavior. Fathers rights to children This was an issue that…
/r/EverydayMisandry09/11/22 07:00 AM
1

I suppose the question depends on what you define traditional masculinity to be.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates04/11/22 09:57 PM
3

Of course it can be incredibly hard to determine wether a behavior is generally toxic, positive or neutral, and social expectations do vary to an extend from society to society. See, this is why I believe these terms aren't very useful.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates04/11/22 09:54 PM
3

So let's back up a moment. What is toxic masculine behavior and how does it differ from positive masculine behavior and traditional masculine behavior?
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates02/11/22 11:46 PM
3

It would be toxic masculinity, according to the proper definition, because those women would be mocking CoffeeBoom's brother for not meeting a social expectation of masculinity. But wouldn't that imply that masculinity as a whole is toxic?
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates02/11/22 11:43 PM
15

I’m pretty sure if men vanished, then humanity would be screwed because… ya know, how would you sustain a population without breeding?
/r/EverydayMisandry02/11/22 04:55 PM
5

But why is it specifically toxic masculinity, and not just general toxicity? I know a few women who would likely say the same thing as your brother. Are they exhibiting toxic masculinity?
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates02/11/22 01:19 AM
5

Good list, but it gets more hazy as you list more traits. For example, women are not as competitive as men on average? In sports, perhaps this would be the case. But in terms of, say, social hierarchies? They're probably just as competitive, if not more so, than men.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates02/11/22 01:17 AM
12

But what exactly would those characteristics be?
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates01/11/22 07:51 PM
20

I think the problem with the term “masculinity” is just how… vague and circular of a term it is. By extension, it makes terms like “positive masculinity” and “toxic masculinity” even more nebulous.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates01/11/22 05:45 PM
42

That Tweet is really sweet. It's a shame that women like Jasmin are put down by other women for boldly declaring their love for men. Supporting men is unfortunately taboo in predominantly female circles.
/r/EverydayMisandry31/10/22 07:22 AM
4

Don't disagree there. I was once a user there on my old account and it has always had issues. But there were some takes I saw on MensLib were absolutely spot on about male issues. Unfortunately, that sub couldn't never grow to its full potential due to the rules that they're not allowed to criticize feminism in any way. It's a shame that the users over there don't realize that a lot of male issues are caused by feminist misandry.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates29/10/22 08:12 PM
2

It's the reason why I love this sub for male issues. It's the perfect middle ground between MensRights and MensLib.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates29/10/22 02:42 AM
7

You don’t have to imagine it. That mindset is what formed the Duluth Model.
/r/EverydayMisandry27/10/22 05:45 PM
19

A man slapping a woman? Do you think people would be okay with that?
/r/EverydayMisandry22/10/22 08:49 PM
15

Regardless, it's clear that this wouldn't be considered okay if the genders were reversed.
/r/EverydayMisandry22/10/22 08:34 PM
1

I hope this event is not advocating for men to return to gender roles or that they need to learn “traditional masculinity”. Men simply don’t benefit from those things anymore.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates21/10/22 04:57 PM
5

Not that I am encouraging dating people who are young enough to be your child, but you’re removing any agency the woman has. She’s 30 years old. She’s not some impressionable teenager.
/r/EverydayMisandry20/10/22 06:11 PM
2

From what I have seen, to be a feminist you must have the belief that we live under a patriarchal society.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates20/10/22 02:24 AM
1

See, you're doing the fallacy again.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates18/10/22 02:13 AM
22

I’ve noticed that misandrists and female supremacists tend to make the (false) observation that “men in groups are especially dangerous”. That’s how they justify sexist policies like girls being allowed in the Boy Scouts.
/r/EverydayMisandry17/10/22 10:52 PM
7

Then why is it that different feminist groups are always calling each other out as “not true feminists”?
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates17/10/22 09:49 PM
3

Do you have a link to those polls?
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates17/10/22 08:14 PM
13

That’s an example of the “No True Scotsman” fallacy.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates17/10/22 08:06 PM
6

I'm sure instances of internalized misogyny do happen and were fairly common in the past, but they're much rarer nowadays because women are not rewarded for attacking other women, but they are rewarded for attacking men. Men are also rewarded for attacking other men. So really, there's more of a problem with internalized misandry.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates15/10/22 12:20 AM
13

I have unfortunately seen a lot of MRAs who believe that the Republicans and right-wingers are on the side of men.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates15/10/22 12:15 AM
3

this sub is like in between r/mensrights and r/menslib So I don't get it, what's wrong with this sub?
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates15/10/22 12:11 AM
5

Sexism in either direction is bad.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates15/10/22 12:09 AM
7

Nice try, agent.
/r/EverydayMisandry14/10/22 08:19 PM
9

For that kind of humor to work, it has to be abundantly clear that the person making the joke isn’t genuinely prejudiced. They also must be willing to make jokes (no light punches) about other groups, including their own group. If a woman is making hard hitting jokes about men, then she’ll have to make hard hitting jokes about women.
/r/EverydayMisandry13/10/22 09:00 PM
11

She literally called boys “biologically weaker”.
/r/EverydayMisandry13/10/22 08:59 PM
4

The reason why men are told “it’s not okay to cry” is due to experience. Many men have cried in front of their girlfriends/wives and they were shamed for it. They got accused of “emotional labor” for having the gall of sharing their emotions with their loved ones.
/r/EverydayMisandry12/10/22 06:51 PM
3

But society pretty much peer pressures men to not express their emotions (or at least, not letting men express their emotions the way they want to) in order to be "manly". Thus, wouldn't that make that toxic masculinity?
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates09/10/22 02:00 AM
1

It is a gendered expectation that men repress emotion but this isn't necessarily the motivation for doing so. But see, is the expectation of men repressing their emotions an example of traditional masculinity or toxic masculinity?
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates08/10/22 05:59 AM
12

But toxic masculinity is such a vague term.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates05/10/22 04:27 PM
10

I personally believe that masculinity and femininity are extremely nebulous terms. For instance, those traits you've listed (Integrity, Curiosity, Tenacity, Alacrity) are things that are gender neutral.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates01/10/22 09:27 PM
14

How do you define Patriarchy?
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates30/09/22 10:42 PM
23

That's the power of the Patriarchy theory. It's so vague that you can twist it into any argument.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates30/09/22 10:41 PM
4

I actually looked at this story on other subreddits and people seem to be pointing out that this is sexist towards men. Granted, it's in that hushed-toned "oh, that sucks for men" kind of way, but at least they acknowledge it instead of sweeping it under the rug.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates30/09/22 10:39 PM
9

Why would we need to start boys in school a year later?
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates30/09/22 02:06 AM
0

Be more specific. What traits and behaviors do you speak of on both of those concepts?
/r/MensRights30/09/22 01:57 AM
1

What’s the difference between toxic masculinity and traditional masculinity?
/r/MensRights29/09/22 11:13 PM
1

But the feminist concept of patriarchy heavily influenced the Duluth Model.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates29/09/22 08:54 PM
1

You’re missing the forest for the trees here. The point of the post is to show that the Patriarchy theory is completely nebulous as a concept. Thus, applying the theory to real world situations can bring disastrous consequence, one of those consequences being The Duluth Model.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates29/09/22 06:29 PM
12

So they're saying that the solution for Russian men who oppose the war is to stay in Russia, be conscripted, and get sent to Ukraine?
/r/EverydayMisandry29/09/22 01:19 AM
1

No offense, but I believe you're intentionally nitpicking.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates29/09/22 01:17 AM
5

That doesn’t make any sense….
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates28/09/22 02:23 PM
3

The thing about the Red Pill group is while they're completely both misogynistic and misandric, they make good points about modern dating and a lot of women's negative treatment of men. But that's exactly how they lure you into their cult and way of thinking....
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates22/09/22 10:35 PM
55

I prefer the gender neutral version: "Happy Spouse, Happy House".
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates22/09/22 10:31 PM
1

That would imply that a significant number of feminists are radicals.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates21/09/22 05:22 PM
10

Do you… not think that people deserved to be loved?
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates20/09/22 06:02 PM
1

I don’t think this would be an example of the “No True Scotsman” fallacy. The patriarchy theory is the core belief of feminism. If they don’t subscribe to that theory, then it would be apt to not call them feminists In a sense, it would be like me calling myself a Christian but not believing in God.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates20/09/22 04:32 PM
3

That would beg the question of whether they're truly feminists or not. The main difference (from what I have seen) between feminism and men's rights is that the former believes that we live under a patriarchal society meant to benefit men while the latter believes society is a gynocentric patriarchy that is meant to benefit women.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates20/09/22 05:01 AM
19

Funnily enough, I have witnessed a lot of conservations that were exactly like this in r/JusticeForJohnnyDepp.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates18/09/22 03:30 AM
51

It's interesting because even the most progressive people I know seem to subconsciously give women less agency than men. For example, say there's an abusive relationship between a man and a woman. If the man was abusive, then the man was the abuser. If they abused each other, then the man was the abuser. If the woman was abusive, then they both abused each other. The agency of women is very rarely recognized in a meaningful manner. I think there's a reason why fourth wave feminism seemingly over…

It wouldn't make me a cuck to take care of a little girl who, until recently, I believed to be my biological daughter. Did those six years mean nothing? Her genes are going to move on, and yours won't. I mean, I can still have consensual sex with another woman in that scenario and have a child with her.

/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates13/09/22 10:03 PM

I would still consider the girl to be my daughter even if she wasn't from a biological standpoint. Family isn't always blood. I would want to divorce the mother and raise the daughter. However, gaining custody in that situation would be insanely difficult. But I would at least try.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates12/09/22 10:54 PM
1

That's true. But still, what would you do in this situation if you were the OP?
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates12/09/22 12:38 AM
1

Of course. His actions were understandable and I wish that the commenters were more sympathetic towards him. However, think about it from the young girl's point of view: You have a loving father who does everything for you. But one day, when you were six years old, he was mad at your mom, took away all your toys, and never spoke to you again. Do you think that wouldn't mess you up at all?
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates11/09/22 07:30 PM
2

This one is a bit of a complex situation on the father's part. Sure, the OP has every right to be mad for his wife cheating on him and making him raise a child that isn't even his. On the other hand, he raised the girl for six years and the girl only ever knew OP as her father. Plus, not giving back the toys he bought her? That's going to mess her up real bad. I will agree though that there's definitely an undertone of misandry with those commenters. The way they brush off the wife cheating as i…

The majority of users in AITA are young women. As women have a proven in-group bias and men have a bias towards women, they are much more lenient with female OPs and harsher with male OPs.

If I had to guess, her husband cheating on her is what led to the judge and jury finding her not guilty. I guess they felt bad for her. However, it's an obstruction of justice. The simple fact is that cheating is not a crime. It's a horrible thing to do to your partner, but it's not illegal.

During the trial, the jury heard moments after discovering the affair Ms. Kennedy used a phone locator app to track her husband and Ms. Noring to a park at Wavell Heights in Brisbane's north. The court heard Ms.Kennedy accelerated on the wrong side of the road and hit the pair with her SUV. She then got out of the car and attacked Ms.Noring, grabbing her by the hair and repeatedly punching her in the back of the head. Ms Kennedy denied intentionally running them over but admitted to the later at…

So this might be a "that happened" story, since the whole "knocked em' clean out" is mostly a movie trope. But assuming it's not, the wife in the story likely caused some brain trauma to her husband assuming he was out cold for more than a few minutes. You heard that right. A wife smashed a pickle jar over his head and knocked him out, which likely has given him long-term brain damage. And yet, the commenter considers this to be side-splittingly hilarious.

Nicely written comment. But when breaking it down, wouldn't it be more accurate to say that the concept of masculinity (and femininity) are inherently toxic, since there appears to be little, if any, difference between traditional masculinity and toxic masculinity?

It's unfortunate because with the exception in specific circumstances, harassment cannot really be proven. In reality, he's an avaricious, corrupt, morally bankrupt, creepy old con artist with a flair for the dramatic.

This post is a great example of feminists contradicting themselves: https://www.reddit.com/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates/comments/w3y59l/help_me_understand_rhetoric_surrounding_men/ And while I'm not sure if feminists specifically invented that term, they definitely have co-opted that term by now. One parent will completely hate you no matter what you do. The other parent will sort of like you if act in the way they want you to. They'll treat you occasionally to get you to love them, but it's clear they do it to manipulate you. In this case, the Democrats hate men. Men will move to the Republ…

I don't know how I feel about this. I'm glad DeSantis signed this bill and all, but Republicans and conservatives are overall not very good for egalitarianism. They want men to still adhere to gender roles. Why do you think they're still complaining about men wearing dresses or "men being demasculinized" or whatever. Men going from the left-wing to the right-wing is like running away from a parent that hates you and living with your other parent who only likes you if you act in a specific manner…

It's insane that feminists and the mainstream media want to throw a male victim under the bus so that they can uphold the integrity of the #MeToo movement. And while I know that there are a lot of feminists who do take Johnny Depp's side, they refuse to see that the problem is their movement's ideology and philosophy and not the people they call "fake feminists".

They refuse to admit men can be victims of women. From what I've noticed, they'll say that men can be victims if they are specifically pressed on it, but their actions and words will say otherwise. When describing DV situations, they'll often use "she" and "her" to describe victims and "he" and "him" to describe perpetrators. The justification is often being that they're describing most DV situations, despite statistics saying that men and women abuse each other at similar rates. It's a common t…

Unlike feminism, MRAs have virtually no social power. I suppose a way to achieve equal standing is for the general public to have a much more positive view of MRAs and to be much more critical of feminism, but that will take a long time if that ever happens. When it comes to feminists, debating and discussing are a distinction without a difference.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates21/05/22 10:27 PM

/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates21/05/22 07:57 PM

What I'm saying is that feminists are suddenly going to change their view. If you ever read 1984, it'll be similar to how The Party seemingly goes from being at war with Eurasia to being at war with Eastasia. "Oceania has always been at war with Eastasia." "Feminists have always supported Johnny Depp."
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates21/05/22 07:55 PM
6

I am admittedly being cynical. I once believe that MRAs and feminists could have a common understanding, but unfortunately I was incorrect in that assumption. I've learned that no matter how hard you try, you cannot convince feminists that concepts such as toxic masculinity and patriarchy are flawed or that men suffer from misandry.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates21/05/22 09:00 AM
9

Sure. But feminists will only acknowledge their view on male victims. As in, they'll say that patriarchy and toxic masculinity are the reasons why male victims aren't believed.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates21/05/22 08:41 AM
14

I mean it in a "mark my words" kind of way. Feminists rode the "believe all women" wave to its natural conclusion. But now that supporting Amber Heard is a very unpopular position, they'll try to do damage control.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates21/05/22 08:35 AM
72

I guarantee that in the next few years, feminists are going to use this trial as an example of "the patriarchy not caring about male victims". They'll downplay the amount of support that Heard had from feminists. They'll claim "the feminists who supported Amber Heard were not real feminists". Just watch.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates21/05/22 01:44 AM

It's not men's job to make women feel safe. Seriously, attitudes like this are the reason why Johnny Depp isn't believed as the victim despite the evidence stacking in his favor.

It's observable reality. Tell me physical attributes that men have a requirement for women. Not a preference, but a requirement.
/r/AntiFeminists19/05/22 11:54 PM
1

Preference: A greater liking for one alternative over another or others. Requirement: A thing that is compulsory; a necessary condition. Men don't have many requirements for women, like having big breasts, big buttocks, or even being conventional attractive in general. A lot of men certainly have a preference for those things, but they're not they only things that matter to them. The only common requirement that men have for women is that they not be overweight.... which is something that can be…
/r/AntiFeminists19/05/22 09:54 PM
1

The difference is that male height for women is a requirement rather than a preference. While not all women want a man who's six feet and above, it's reasonable to say that most women want a man who's taller than her.
/r/AntiFeminists19/05/22 08:58 PM
1

It's more like I presumed. I don't understand why you brought up shortness when you claim you're not using it as an insult. So why mention that attribute at all?
/r/AntiFeminists19/05/22 10:51 AM
8

The arguments seem to have narrowed more to "toxic masculinity" rather than masculinity as a whole like it was at the time. To be honest though, "toxic masculinity" is just calling all masculinity toxic. If you ask for examples for examples of toxic masculinity, you'll (probably) get gender specific issues. But if you ask for examples of positive masculinity, you'll get gender neutral traits.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates19/05/22 10:48 AM

Now don’t like the answer. Because I know the answer you have given me is bs. It's simple: - Calling someone (usually a male) short is often used as an insult. - Calling someone greasy is certainly an insult. - Ergo, calling someone "short and greasy" is implying those two things are bad. If you're not intending to use "short" as an insult, then why bring that attribute up in the first place? You're clearly not complimenting him, nor are you stating an observable fact since you have already said…
/r/AntiFeminists19/05/22 03:51 AM
1

You're twisting your words. If you call someone short and greasy, the implication is that both of those things are bad. That would be like me saying "you get mad when we reject you for being flat-chested, old and greasy" and than me backtracking by saying "oh, there's nothing wrong with being flat-chested or being old".
/r/AntiFeminists19/05/22 01:50 AM

/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates17/05/22 08:20 PM

Most men are taught to do precisely the opposite and protect women and children. The men who do those evil things are looked down upon by most other men. And the “patriarchy” didn’t demand men to be material providers. Women did. It was a system where men got survival necessities while women took care of children. It’s a system that’s now archaic but yet we as a society still adhere to it.

Yes, but menstrual leave will cause issues. From a potential pay gap to hiring discriminations.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates12/05/22 07:33 PM
13

The idea of menstrual leave will cause a couple of issues though. If it's paid leave, then that would most likely create some resentment from male workers. If it's unpaid leave, then that would cause a pay gap. And of course, the menstrual leave would cause companies to be less likely to hire women.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates12/05/22 10:38 AM

It just doesn't seem logical to me. If you ghost someone, wouldn't they want answers and thus attempt to contact you?
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates12/05/22 10:01 AM

I assume they're optional. If it's paid leave, then that might cause resentment from male workers. If it's unpaid leave, then that would cause a genuine pay gap. And, as you've said, the menstrual leave would cause companies to be less likely to hire women. I think a better way to solve this issue is to simply give both men and women way more sick days. Also, I'm sorry to hear about your condition.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates12/05/22 09:57 AM

I don't understand how ghosting someone is safer.... in fact, I would think that ghosting someone would be far more dangerous. Do they think that a guy who they suspect would have a hard time taking rejection would handle being ghosted very well? That doesn't add up. It makes me think that this whole "ghosting" phenomenon is not out of safety, as that's just a justification. At best it's from a place of social anxiety and at worst it's from a place of insensitivity.

Are you saying a male feminist or MRA on an individual basis or as a social movement? Because if we are talking about two individuals then there is no way of knowing. If we are talking on a systemic basis and based on any a metric of which group has the most systemic power then that's a different conversation. Well both, really. A male feminist would have more power than a MRA. This is what I mean, what is the framework you folks use? How do you conceptualize how society functions? Is advocacy m…

Feminists were instrumental in getting the definition of rape changed so it could include men. Not entirely the case. There are places in the world where feminists are doing the opposite and not making the definition of rape include men. Most of the literature around understanding how patriarchy and toxic masculinity harm men were studied, championed and understood by feminists. The problem is that the definition of patriarchy and toxic masculinity change depending on who you ask. It's hard to b…

Have you not noticed that really short women tend (to an even greater degree than average height women) to date guys that are well above average male height? It's almost like they're trying to even out the genetics. This is interesting. I'm also a short guy (5'7") and I have noticed that all the women who were into me were always around the 5'4" - 5'7" range. Any shorter than that and I think you'd find men's romantic and sexual prospects get significantly and exponentially reduced (though not e…

On average, stature definitely effects women's attractiveness towards men and anyone who says otherwise is lying. There are very few women who could date a man shorter than them. From what I've seen, when women say "I don't care about a guy's height" what it really means is "I don't care about a guy's height as long as he's in the height range that I care about". As for how to change the perception of short men? Stop making shortness (especially for men) seem like it's a bad thing.

Why do you believe that feminists did it? It's seems more likely to me that it would be anti-feminist conservatives. Remember that "anti-feminist" doesn't always equate to "male advocate". Many of them believe that men who get abused by women are "weak" or "beta". As amoral as feminists can be, they do not seem to be the culprit behind these cyberattacks. Playing with someone's emotions is never playful.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates11/04/22 08:32 AM
19

If someone is intentionally messing with your emotions (i.e, a girlfriend telling you that you can open up to her about your feelings but in reality she doesn't want you to because she'll be less attracted to you) that's emotional abuse. If genders were reversed, most people would consider it at bare minimum to be shitty behavior.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates11/04/22 06:35 AM
31

Many (especially young and attractive) women use this tactic to filter candidates. Which is.... abusive. The difference is that society is not calling it abuse because it has become normalized. It's not emotionally abusive. Playing with a man's emotions is emotionally abusive, no matter how you cut it. It's more akin to the verbal sparring many male friends do among each other as well. That's bantering, which is completely different.

They likely reason is because as humans, we have a primal instinct to protect women. It makes sense, because women can get pregnant and thus further the species. In the context of modern day society, this would mean shielding women from criticism. That being said, this behavior is subconscious and doesn't mean that true equality is impossible. Our species have gotten to where we are because of rational thought. Currently, it does seem that young men are trying to do this to some extent. There's …

I was asking because I presumed that liberal women would be more likely influenced by feminism to have a certain view of men. Conservative women, while they want to conserve gender roles, wouldn't likely have that same reaction since they lack the same negative preconceived notions of men and masculinity that liberal women have. From what I've seen, libertarian/centrist women seem to be a little more understanding of male issues.

Left-Wing solution would be to let men healthy express their emotions however and whenever they please, without the judgements of women or other men. But as you point out, a lot of women do not want men to be emotional even if they claim otherwise. The extreme anti-men feminists are a minority. I'm really tired of this line of thinking. If this was true, then how come the "majority" of pro-male feminists haven't done anything against the "minority" of anti-male feminists? All the laws passed after first and second wave feminism are inclusive Like the Duluth Model? It states that due to our "patriarchal society", men cannot truly be victims of domestic violence. Those movements had a lot of men in them. Like Warren Farrell? The only man to …

It's certainly not a "pet issue". In fact, I'd say male demonization is one of the core issues that MRAs are fighting against.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates08/03/22 09:52 AM
14

A person tends to be praised when they’re fulfilling the positive expectations of a gender role, but derided when they’re not. This is definitely the crux of male issues IMO. Men are told to cry and share their emotions with the girlfriend/wife.... except when it's inconvenient. Now it's "emotional labor" and men are indirectly told that they need to be more masculine. Men are now adhering to the stereotypical traits of masculinity. But wait! Some of those traits are toxic! Men need to have more…

I suppose one way is to recognize the empathy gap: Women are more or less proven to have an in-group bias and men lack an in-group bias. As a result, men are rarely given any empathy or benefit of the doubt when it comes to certain issues. You can see this in action in places such as r/AmITheAsshole, which is a predominately female space. Women's bad behavior is usually justified over there. And on the rare occasion that it is criticized, the criticisms usually lack the same vitriol as when male…

Here's another example I have seen: Maternal: The quality of having or showing the tenderness and warmth and affection of or befitting a mother. Paternal: Showing a kindness and care associated with a father. That's pretty cute, right? True. But at the end of the day, Yang is a politician. He's going to try to appeal to as many people as possible and that includes feminists.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates22/02/22 10:13 PM
6

I even think you’re too optimistic. You're right. I think what will probably happen is that Yang will at first try to appease both the "MRA" and "Feminist" crowd that he's pleasing, ultimately succumbing to the latter because he'll get more votes and/or popularity that way. And even if he decides to stick to the former crowd, it would most likely be feminism-lite rather than actual male advocacy.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates22/02/22 09:26 PM

To be honest, I still don't buy it. I believe he's posturing. Male issues are becoming more mainstream and of course Yang would want that slice of the pie to get more male votes.

Essentially, their belief is that capitalism must operate on "masculine traits" (presumably traits like stoicism) in order to prosper while "feminine traits" are pushed aside. Therefore in their minds, women who are successful capitalists are "a part of the patriarchy".

When they say "educate your son" I wonder what they mean? From a young age, we were always told that we need to protect women because they're physically weaker but spiritually, emotionally, and morally superior to us. However, misandric women (I'm not specifying misandric men because they know damn well how they were raised) seem to believe that we are told from a young age that we're entitled to women and their bodies.

Those comments are screwed up. I understand the commenters condemning the guy for playing loud music at 3 am, but the commenters defending the mother for beating her son? Imagine instead of a 28-year-old man, it was a 28-year-old woman. The comments would be much more sympathetic to the hypothetical daughter. I don't understand why we, as a society, always have to boil these types of situations down to "good guy" vs "bad guy" when in reality sometimes both sides are bad.

I've always said that toxic masculinity was an easily disprovable concept. Here's how to disprove it: Just ask what is considered toxic masculinity, traditional masculinity, and positive masculinity. Though if you do ask "what does non-toxic masculinity look like", the only two answers I can imagine are essentially benevolent misogyny or not much of anything. Well obviously, but my point is that they're intentionally made to make the woman look completely innocent and/or made to make the man look either completely evil or completely stupid.

By "Pro-Feminist Space" I hope you mean "Pro-Egalitarian Space". There is no such thing as "Pro-Feminist Space". Feminism's philosophy is inherently misandristic when applied to today's reality.

Does anyone else think that the a lot of AITA stories are... made up or exaggerated by misandric women who have a "bone to pick" with men? For example, I remember one story reading how a woman was being abused by her boyfriend because he wouldn't let her see her male friends. I mean, it's obvious she's not the asshole, so why would she post on that subreddit asking if she was? I've also noticed a lot of stories from male users where they would either act abusive or like complete morons. For exam…

Capitalism has cucked the majority of males to a minority class and the women who can make their own money won’t date across or down socioeconomic castes. Let’s keep it Marxist here. So I agree that Capitalism has many problems, but... what's the solution?

Well the next step is to accuse them of invalidating your feelings.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates18/12/21 04:17 AM
20

When the term "emotional labor" is used, 99% percent of the time it's just misandristic women complaining about how their boyfriends/husbands are not doing the dishes. These particular types of women do not want their significant other to open up their emotions because they want to maintain control of the relationship.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates18/12/21 02:43 AM
24

Of course men talk less about their own emotional labor, to talk about it you need to be sufficiently open with your emotions. That's a vicious cycle: If a man wants to open up, he'll be accused of emotional labor If a man doesn't want to open up, he'll be accused of toxic masculinity
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates17/12/21 10:13 PM
49

The man makes the moves, the man makes the arrangement, the man pays the bills, the man makes all the effort. And the man cannot complain about any of it or he'll risk his partner losing attraction towards him. That's true emotional labor.

The difference i've seen is that white supremacists justified the evil actions of white people as being terrible but necessary, while feminists justify the evil actions of women as being a response to men's evil actions. But overall, feminists and white supremacists have very extremely similar mindsets.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates15/12/21 09:39 AM
6

It's definitely a topic that needs to be discussed. I've read quotes that were from white supremacists about what they thought about people of color. Sociopathic, dumb, brutish, etc. But with a firm hand and a little discipline, they can be straighten out into fine citizens! It's scary how similar a mindset feminists have towards men. Instead of the White Man's Burden, it's the Woman's Burden. It comes from this narcissistic paternalism that supremacists of all types seem to have.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates15/12/21 08:29 AM
20

Despite their talk, they do want to keep "The Patriarchy" in place. Why? Because paradoxically, that's what gives them power. Without a boogeyman that they can rally people against, they wouldn't have any power.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates15/12/21 07:53 AM

It seems like feminists are attempting to force collective guilt among men out of sadistic gratification. It's not about helping women, it's about hurting men. They don't want equality, they want to dominate.

I have the opposite opinion. I don't think it will be pro Big Brother. I believe what will happen is that the society in this new novel will be retconned as being patriarchal rather than simply totalitarian. O'Brien's hunger for power won't be simply because he's a terrible person, but because of his "toxic masculinity". The Party and Big Brother will be a representation of the American Right, while Emmanuel Goldstein will be a representation of the American Left.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates13/12/21 10:09 PM

"Men, use your power and privileges to ensure safer, happier homes, workplaces, and communities for our women and girls". Say what you want about conservatives, at least they're open about what toxic expectations they want for men.

Why you ask about misogynists puzzles me: anyone who has been connected with the parts of the men's movement that gets on and does things (the genuine activists) you surely know that not only are a high proportion of them women—as are the speakers—but none of them exhibit hatred. You have to get hatred out of your system to be effective as am activist in anything. Perhaps you have been absorbing too much feminism? Maybe it was the former MensLib part of me talking or perhaps i've gotten cynical …
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates11/12/21 03:10 PM

I sure hope so. My problem is that right-leaning people are usually the ones who openly support gender roles.

I have a question. Are these speakers Men's Rights Activists in good faith? Or are they rightoids/misogynists looking for an excuse to rag on feminism? Will this event actually truly discuss men's issues? Will it explain, in great and understandable detail, how feminism has caused or worsened some of these issues? Or will it be just the typical "men can cry too" slacktivism? I apologize if I seem harsh, but i'm wary of the MRM being hijacked by certain bad-faithed groups.

If a model is highly criticized and the studies did not show any sufficient evidence for it to work it should be redesigned trough the scientific approach alone. See, that's the issue. Your point on rape is a vary valid concern it’s still a human life But the mother shouldn't be forced to look at her child everyday and be reminded that she was raped. Ok, what do you believe Read should've done in this situation that would've given him an ideal outcome?

/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates06/12/21 03:34 AM

Christ sakes, man. I'm not supporting Carruth. But it's simple, when you're on someone's property and you they don't want you there, right or wrong, they have liability to shoot you. I don't like what Carruth did, but the law is the law. And even then, it's more pragmatic to simply walk away and call the police. I'm mean, what did you want Read to do? Take Carruth's gun away and break into their home?
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates06/12/21 03:33 AM
0

Remember, Read got into Carruth's face and tried to steal his gun. Regardless of how the confrontation started, Read's actions can be used in court to prove that Carruth defended himself. Read could've walked away and took his chances with the law instead of confronting the gunman literally face-to-face. And how do you know that the cops would've arrested Read? Arresting him for what exactly?
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates06/12/21 01:54 AM
0

Yes, the cops would've absolutely done something. And it's extremely unlikely that Carruth would've shot Read in the back, as that would be murder.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates05/12/21 11:35 PM
2

I agree. Carruth and his wife are scum for not letting Read see his child. But what i'm saying is that Read should've walked away and called the police. He was certainly not helping his case by getting in Carruth's face and trying to grab his gun. We live in a society with laws, not the wild west.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates05/12/21 11:34 PM

What Carruth and his wife did was awful, no doubt about it. However, Read should not have gotten in Carruth's face. He should've walked away and called the cops. Maybe even take them to court if they don't budge.

Patriarchy: various different definitions, but I think it can be summed up by men holding more power in top and that power tending to be passed on to other men (in the US, this is seen in politics and Fortune 500 execs). If we’re going by technical definitions, it’s difficult to deny that we exist in some form of patriarchy, although it’s degrading fast. Because they have been weaponized. "Patriarchy" is often used to downplay male problems. "Toxic Masculinity" is often used to describe any bad male behavior. "Emotional Labor" is often used to shame men for sharing their emotions with their girlfriends/wives/female friends. "Weaponized Incompetence" is often used to shame men who aren't gifted at every task. Do you want me to go on? Again, the biggest problem with these terms is just how vague they are.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates04/12/21 07:16 AM

The problem is that the definition of "The Patriarchy" seems to change depending on the context of the conversation. It's a bit hard to "truly" understand the term if there's so many interpretations of it.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates04/12/21 07:01 AM

It doesn't help that terms like "emotional labor" and "weaponized incompetence" exist. They're just politically correct ways to tell men to go back to their gender roles. So I asked him what he wants in return, and he said that he just wants me to love him. There are actual groups that seek to deal with these issues, particularly male suicide and depression. Right, but these issues are often simplified down to "toxic masculinity". There is also zero pushback to these groups… so I am confused where the pushback you guys perceive is actually coming from? Almost every MRA has heard the "everyday is International Men's Day" from feminists when the topic is brought up. Even high profile and respected feminists have said that exact line. Do you believe that tension with gender relation is causing male suicide? or do you think it's a collective issue of men and women?(societital stress) i.e conforming and confused, or even just plain lack of encouragement? It's a little bit of both. I believe the demonization of men, the dehumanization of men, and double-standards that favor women are the main reasons for why men are committing suicide at high rates. That, but it also goes deeper. It states that domestic abuse comes from the idea of patriarchal control of women. As a result, men who are abused by women aren't truly victims of domestic violence, since women theoretical hold little-to-no power in society. The model also supports the common misconception that men commit domestic violence more than women. And of course, being that this model was created in 1981, it does not include homosexual relationships. Remember that time when MensLib did a …

Well then what gender roles aren't oppressive? Ok, well I can't argue against that because you haven't provided a definition and I don't even know which dictionary you're citing. Masculinity: Qualities or attributes regarded as characteristic of men. Femininity: Qualities or attributes regarded as characteristic of women. The only way that these terms work is if they rely on stereotypes and gender roles.

Absolutely. We tend to say that certain traits are 'masculine or feminine', but in reality almost all of them have little basis in biology, and those that do are simply statistical averages, not rules. And see, that’s the issue here. All those traits you listed about traditional/positive masculinity (strong, provider, decisive, hiding vulnerabilities when it’s appropriate, taking pride and enjoying sex, independence) could easily belong to women. “Positive femininity” if you will. Strong, a provider, decisive, hiding vulnerabilities including emotional ones, being independent. With the obvious exception of "fear of appearing feminine", how exactly are these traits bad? And what exactly is the difference between traditional masculinity and toxic masculinity? Very often, these thing appear to be synonyms.

Do you have any evidence that the majority of US Conservatives are unironically appropriating Nazi symbols and rhetoric? I haven't seen any conservative fly a Nazi symbol, but I have seen way too many fly the Confederate flag. I don't think it's a "majority" but it sure isn't just a minority.

That's a good point!

More Men commit suicide than women because male psychology and the roles of males in this ever progressing society is hardly understood or studied upon. Well that, but there's also the fact that men are being demonized by society. It already sucks being seen as disposable, but to also be seen as evil.... it can be too much to handle for a lot of men and so they just end it all. It's not like society wanted them anyway.

I've noticed in a lot of these types of subs is that the moment you start questioning their ideology, they ban you.

Selfish and arrogant people tend to be confident in themselves. Confidence is an attractive trait to women (and men too). But another nuance is that arrogant people are less likely to be manipulated because they're seen as more "world-weary". You're comic book comparison is a little off. Your comparison would be apt if you were comparing Superman and Batman.

"As long as this behavior, which is also seen by other men, is respected and tolerated and we don't stand up when we see something like this, nothing will change." Those specific women are probably toxic people.

/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates14/10/21 10:42 PM

I don't think it's as likely as you think. There are a lot of women who would like to stand up for men, but they fear ostracism. Given rise to groups like incels and MGTOWs who've hijacked and perverted the Men's Rights idealogy I think you mean misogynistic people (like Red Pill PUAs) have perverted the movement, not Incels or MGTOW.

I do believe that the first and second wave of feminism were needed. The third wave... not so much. At least, not in places like the United States or United Kingdom.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates14/10/21 10:06 PM

Interesting. It's horrifying that a lot of women have a romantic view of rape, but interesting nonetheless. Though I find this line very strange: "Researchers found that 52 percent of the women had fantasies about forced sex with a man, 32 percent about being raped" What exactly is the difference between rape and forced sex? They seem like the same thing to me.

More rights for women You mean in places like the United States? Or in places like Afghanistan? Less gendered expectations That's fair. But how does "penalizing free speech" figure into deconstructing the patriarchy? In fact, what even is the patriarchy?
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates09/10/21 11:15 PM
9

Exactly how is it being deconstructed?
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates09/10/21 06:57 AM

I know. I was just pointing out that fact. People who lean left are more likely to be silenced by other leftists than right-wingers.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates08/10/21 11:34 PM

I originally thought that as well, until I read through the database: https://www.thefire.org/research/scholars-under-fire-database/

"GIBM learned that males accounted for 71% of scholars targeted for speech and expression. The reasons are varied and come from both the left (61.9%) and the right (34.5%)". So it's mostly men who lean left that are being silenced. Interesting.

Fair enough. But there is a good reason why a lot of people here are extremely sour on the current feminist movement. Some of us were even former feminists that have been disillusioned by the movement.

That's why I call the Duluth Model: "Feminist Kryptonite"
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates04/10/21 09:20 PM

Probably because they think we are the exact same as MensRights, who can be misogynistic from time to time. They have more lenient moderation.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates04/10/21 08:18 PM
23

That's why I support the idea of MGTOW on paper. In practice.... it didn't really turn out too well.

Fair point.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates04/10/21 08:03 PM

I was similar to you. - Troubled young teenage guy - Looked into Red Pill - Somewhat believed in it - Looked into MensLib - Realized Red Pill was misogynistic BS - But then I slowly realized how insidious MensLib was - Realized MensLib was misandristic BS - Went to MensRights - More misogynistic BS - And then, I found this sub.... and here I am now.

Men's Rights is more lenient on moderation. I don't like that sub too much because they prove feminists points by occasionally saying things that are completely off the chain.

/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates03/10/21 04:48 PM

Please read all the comments that responded to you. Believe us when I say that modern feminism has nothing to offer to you, as a man. Hardline Antifeminist To be honest, I prefer to call myself a "non-feminist" rather than a "anti-feminist". I know that sounds arbitrary, but here's my reason is because a lot of people i've seen who call themselves by the latter are usually TradCons.

A lot of people often tell male victims of sexual assault that "it's men doing it to other men" in an attempt to downplay what happened to them.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates30/09/21 06:37 PM

It's the carrying out of it that is at fault by many on the Left. Do you mind elaborating on this bit?

Probably because the concept of "Toxic Masculinity" is extremely vague. Here's a way to circumvent it: The definition of Masculinity is "qualities and attributes regarded as characteristic of men". What are qualities and attributes that constitute Masculinity? What is considered Traditional Masculinity? What is considered Toxic Masculinity?

Even if the criminals are men, it doesn't explain why people are more shocked about crimes against women than crimes against men. Well, there's your answer. People are more desensitized towards violence against men because it's usually other men doing it.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates24/09/21 07:16 AM
5

It's a bit of an oversimplification to say that "fear" is considered a female emotion.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates24/09/21 03:44 AM

That's because women are conditioned by society to fear men, that they must always keep alert and see men as having bad intentions unless proven otherwise. Think about it; would you have empathy for something that terrifies you?
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates23/09/21 10:13 PM
5

I agree with that sentiment. Internalized misandry is a real thing.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates23/09/21 09:12 PM

That's because men are given agency, while women aren't. It's one of the few ways that feminists are both misandristic and misogynistic.

Because that's not how they define toxic masculinity. What is their definition of toxic masculinity?
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates20/09/21 08:36 PM

Here's a way to circumvent the term "toxic masculinity": - Ask what behaviors constitute traditional masculinity. - Ask what behaviors constitute toxic masculinity. - Ask what behaviors constitute positive masculinity.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates20/09/21 05:53 PM

Kyriarchy What is this, if you don't mind explaining. I have definitely seen some sexist and misogynistic material on this sub Examples? Oh, and I'm personally a great fan of the r/MensLib sub. Even after everything they've done?
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates20/09/21 05:48 PM

This sub is infinitely better by a country mile.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates20/09/21 07:59 AM

I don't know, I feel as though the users over there like women in the same way feminists like men. Which is to say, not really.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates20/09/21 01:05 AM

I would say feminism is considered fairly popular. At least, among young women it is.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates20/09/21 01:03 AM

But that's exactly how it works. That's why the feminist movement is so popular.

What do you think conservative MRAs believe about gender roles in society?
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates19/09/21 10:28 PM

/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates19/09/21 10:03 PM

Conservative MRA Feminist leftist Concerning the rights of men, they're both the same thing.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates19/09/21 09:47 PM

I've been through r/MensRights. A lot of them don't like women.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates19/09/21 09:46 PM

Some of them do. Some MRAs are also conservatives.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates19/09/21 09:41 PM

We do advocate for the rights of men, but we also need to remember to keep ourselves in-check. There are a lot of members in the MRA movement who do things in bad faith.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates19/09/21 09:40 PM
24

Because unlike feminists, we have critical thinking skills. This person is allowed to dislike the MRM, and they also acknowledging that feminism's philosophy doesn't work with men's issues.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates19/09/21 09:36 PM

There are a lot of Red Pillers that dress themselves up as MRAs, i'll give you that.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates19/09/21 09:35 PM

But I don't think all of the terms are completely illegitimate. That's how propaganda works. It's not purely lies, it's truth mixed in with lies.

I despise the MRM How come?
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates19/09/21 08:59 PM

That's interesting.
/r/MensRights18/09/21 06:57 PM

No?
/r/MensRights18/09/21 06:03 PM

That's the thing, i'm asking for your opinion on these things.
/r/MensRights18/09/21 05:38 PM
1

I need things more in-depth.
/r/MensRights18/09/21 05:16 PM
1

But you didn't?
/r/MensRights18/09/21 07:23 AM
1

I'm going to do a thought experiment: What behaviors and ideas do you believe to be traditional masculinity? I know you said means the "archetype/hero archetype" but i'd like you to elaborate on that. What behaviors and ideas do you believe to be toxic masculinity? And what's the difference between toxic and traditional masculinity? What behaviors and ideas do you believe to be positive masculinity?
/r/MensRights18/09/21 06:33 AM
1

I've literally been refuting everything you've said. Press X to doubt. Let's start with toxic masculinity again. What do you think it is, exactly des that differ from the actual definition? From what I understand, it's society's view of what a "man" is and how all men should follow that masculine ideal. Any man that doesn't follow it is not considered a "real man". The problem that I have with the term is that it's very open-ended. What behaviors are considered toxic masculinity? To answer that,…
/r/MensRights18/09/21 05:35 AM
1

No, because you don't even attempt to refute anything I say and instead come up with "witty" remarks and ad-hominem attacks.
/r/MensRights18/09/21 04:42 AM

You're clearly a psychopath.

What has MRA done for men's rights besides complain on the internet? Fund male shelters, for one. And what have feminists done? Attempt to pull funding for these shelters. Are they working together with legislators? Bit hard when the institution is anti-male. Are they having civil discussions with the feminists they agree with to try to come to some sort of resolution? Believe us, we've tried. Over at r/FeminismUncensored. But no matter what, we could never come to a resolution. We were told tim…

What the Angel subreddit seems to forget is that the user base of Asshole is prominently women. Specifically, white women between the ages of 18 - 34. I'm not saying that women can't be misogynistic (hell, I think that MRAs know better than anyone on how men can be sexist towards other men). But given that women are proven to have an in-group bias, it's highly unlikely that that subreddit is filled with more misogyny than misandry.

I don't know. There's just something about some of these comments that seem... off. I can't properly explain it. They don't break the rules or anything, it's just a feeling. We have always been pretty close to MensRights, since the inception of the subreddit. Well true, but this sub can discuss sexism in a nuanced fashion. MensRights is too vitriolic IMO.

I fail to recognize that the majority of issues trotted out by feminists are actually "women's issues", most of them are non-gendered issues upon closer examination Which issues to be specific?

I've noticed this especially in the dating and relationships subreddits because one can easily juxtapose the scenarios of men and women and see the biased responses that run off of the principle of dismissing men. It is quite astounding. There's actually been experiments of this relating to r/AmItheAsshole. Submissions made by men were more likely to have a "YTA" (You're the asshole) rating, while submissions made by women were given a "NTA" (Not the asshole) or at least a "NAH" (No assholes her…

I've been more of an oaf than a creep in my life. If you didn't get that a girl was hinting at attraction towards you, than you're not an oaf. That's a communication fail on her part.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates09/09/21 09:06 PM

I think some of it comes from "dating hints". As in, things girls do when they're interested in a guy. Play with their hair, laugh at his jokes, compliment his appearance, ect. The problem is that, to one girl those are signs of attraction, but to another girl those are just her being friendly. And at that point, men are stuck in a catch-22: If we assume it was her being friendly and it actually wasn't, then we're dumb oafs who can't get a simple sign of attraction. If we assume it was a hint an…

False equivalence. The point is that that group doesn't represent us and we should have nothing to do with them. We should find an alternative means of archiving our content. I personally object this from a moral standpoint. But even looking at this from a pragmatic standpoint, it's still a bad idea. Men's Rights Activists, even leftist ones, are branded as misogynists, and having an archive that is related to Red Pill is not going to help our reputation. It'll make it worse, if anything.

The problem with feminism is that they're not critical enough of The Old Ways They're not critical of The Old Ways. They support it, they just dress it up in different words and are a little nicer about it. I don’t think the education system provides a significant advantage to women though. https://mitili.mit.edu/sites/default/files/project-documents/SEII-Discussion-Paper-2016.07-Terrier.pdf Other users can give you more data, but there's evidence to suggest that male students are graded lower than female students for the same work. Very decent advice in TRP spaces. Things like "get in shape" and "don't be a doormat" are general dating advice. Red Pill is an alt-right cult and believe me, I don't use the term "alt-right" very often nor very lightly. I remember reading that stuff when I was younger and disliked women as a result, until I realized it was all nonsense.

To them a Brown man can never be a human being with thoughts, feelings, and opinions. A brown man to them is scary. He is either a sex object, a terrorist/thug, or a hashtag for virtue signaling. Not so different with other races. White, Black, Brown. To them, men aren't human beings, not even animals. Just cogs in the machine, unworthy of personhood.

"Incel Movement" What incel movement? They clearly do not understand what incel means. Involuntary Celibate As in, someone (usually a man) who is pretty much unlucky in love. Keep in mind that celibate doesn't necessarily just mean abstaining from sex. Supporting staff to identify young people that may be at risk of radicalization.
