Doesn't sound too bad. Probably fixable if you both want it to work

My boy is 23. I'm 58M. We have a good enough relationship. He reaches out to me often. I'm proud of him in every way and I tell him often. The divorce affected both of my children in an adverse way but they understand the reasons why and have both told me that they just want me and my ex to be happy, whether together or apart.
/r/Divorce_Men22/10/24 12:06 AM

Yep. Wife friended men from all over the world and was involved in dozens of emotional affairs with them. When we went to marriage counseling, the marriage counselor told my wife that what she was doing was a betrayal of trust and was outside the boundaries of our marriage vows. She didn't believe him.

I bought a good mattress, (Casper), and lived /slept in our finished basement

I had a very similar situation. I'm a 58M. Married for 30 years to a verbally abusive 57F. Relationship started off great. Marriage wasn't perfect throughout the years but we made it work. Then she hit menopause.... She became more verbally abusive towards me and my family. She refused therapy and told me that I was the one who needed therapy. Kids are mid-twenties and off on their own. I filed for divorce.

Are you able to expand on this please? Is there data supporting this? "The number 1 indicator that a man is about to get divorced in the next 6 months is job loss"
/r/Divorce_Men20/10/24 09:35 PM

Yes! I feel like I've been through a trauma
/r/Divorce_Men19/10/24 06:26 PM

Same. 58M here. Looking forward to peace and no toxicity

Not realistic. Everyone has the right to divorce and there's nothing that you can do to stop the process.

If you want things to work out with your wife, both of you may consider couples or one on one counseling or both. Online "infidelity" contributed to the demise of my 30 year marriage. I'm a 58M. It's a betrayal of honesty and trust - however - from what you've described, that doesn't appear to be the case in your situation. Good luck.

As does my stbxw. You'll probably have to pay some alimony
/r/Divorce_Men14/10/24 08:41 PM
3

How did you get zero alimony with her not working? And why are you going to trial and not working out an agreement?
/r/Divorce_Men14/10/24 04:48 PM
3

This is the first question
/r/Divorce_Men14/10/24 12:38 AM
3

I really don't see this as a negative for my agreement. If anything it's giving my soon-to-be ex-wife a sense that she won something from me. Even though I was planning on paying it anyway.
/r/Divorce_Men13/10/24 11:36 PM

Because I made a deal with both of my kids to pay their undergraduate tuition

Sounds like you're unable to allow your heart to feel. Could be grieving the loss of your wife/life/marriage. With me anyway, going Through a 3 year divorce process, it had it's emotional ups and downs. Every day is better especially now that we've agreed to terms. You're wounded. Give yourself some time to heal. You'll come out fine in the end

I ran the numbers and there's not enough equity to make a reasonable offer
/r/Divorce_Men13/10/24 01:53 AM

I don't think you were an idiot at all. You put yourself out there, made yourself vulnerable and it didn't work it. It's OK. Onward and upward.

1

Why not?
/r/Divorce_Men12/10/24 08:07 PM

I paid for both kids first car lease. Just a deal that I made with them. I can certainly use the proceeds from the sale of the house to pay off my son's Sallie Mae loan.

I'm 58 almost 59 and going through a divorce that I initiated from my wife of 29 years. She's also a narcissist and passive aggressive and I feel like I've been abused and may have some sort of PTSD. My advice to you would be to get out of the house as much as possible. Are you able to rent a place until the divorce is finalized? Have you legally filed for divorce? Hang in there.... It isn't easy at any age
/r/Divorce_Men23/09/24 01:27 AM
2

Get out of the same bed for starters. Get out of the same house if possible. I was a horn dog when I first filed. That has subsided now that the legal process is approaching the end. I'm too stressed and anxious to even think about getting laid

I'm so with you. I was on bumble and tinder for one week and I had to cancel my accounts and delete the apps. The women, for the most part are all fat, inked up and full of demands. I'll leave things up to organic fate.
/r/Divorce_Men12/09/24 01:42 AM

Why wasn't it a 50-50 split? Was this decided by a judge or is this the agreement that you and your ex agreed to amongst yourselves?

No. I could have dealt with that...... It was the constant passive aggressive behavior, lying about texting or facebooking strange men from all over the world, the not working or contributing to the household expenses as we agreed to, the negativity towards my family

In my opinion it's not because of money. It's because they don't want to look like the cause of the death of the relationship. At least that's what occurred in my marriage

Let's see, well, in my situation, I won't have to listen to my SAH wife of 28 years berate me if I buy a pair of socks, or tell me that my hemorrhoids are from sticking stuff up my ass, (which I don't), tell me that my sister is being selfish because she needs a break from taking care of our 86 yo mom whose health is failing, ( I told my wife that is like to go stay with mom for a week or two in order to give my sister a break. Or listen to her tell me that her bitchy mom and 2 flaky friends tol…

My God..... You could be me! I've filled and recanted twice in the past 1.5 years. I just can't seem to bring myself to make the commitment to move on. I'm in therapy for it. I had 6 + months worth of darkness, suicidal ideation, depression and anxiety. They have all disappated, thanks to at home ketamine therapy. I need clarity. I WANT to be happy yet i KNOW that I'll never be happy married to my wife.

I'm with you. Married 28 years and on the fence regarding moving forward with the divorce which would be my doing. Fortunately, my kids are a bit older... 24 and 22. I'm just having such a difficult time letting go even though I KNOW that we're incompatible at this point

I wish that I could be that selfish. And I don't mean that as an insult.... It's actually a compliment!

I'd ask.... 24 years is a long time.... And you've both been through the ringer apparently.

Of course, 28 years ago, I thought my stbx was a keeper. Different time, different ages.... Not an apples to apples comparison if that's your angle. No legal ramifications here in CT

She's not cruel, is a family person where my wife is not... Yes, she's into sex..... Everything that I'm into and more... She's present, she LISTENS to me. Not that it matters - BUT - she's well off and retired. She doesn't need my money.

Thanks for your reply. She won't go to couple's counseling because she doesn't think that it will help.. The reality is, she won't like what the counselor tells her/us. We've tried counseling a few years ago. My wife thinks she's perfect... That, in her words, "there's nothing wrong with me". She's the first to criticize others and compare ourselves to others.
